This post contains spoilers for Boruto.
At the time of its announcement, Boruto: Naruto Next Generation seemed like an excellent project that would expand on the already phenomenal world of Naruto. There was a strong belief that Boruto would carry on Naruto's legacy, but several years after it was first released, fans have begun to question whether the manga was really needed.
In fact, many people were calling for the series to be expunged. Fortunately for Boruto fans, the manga has not been axed yet, but even they can't deny that major changes are needed.
Naruto: Kishimoto Reveals A Big Concern About Boruto
Kishimoto is somewhat concerned about Naruto's sequel, Boruto.
Ikemoto Needs To Use Naruto Characters More
Older Naruto Characters Will Draw In A Lot Of Fans
- Ikemoto has not used Sasuke and Naruto properly
- Other Naruto characters could help improve the sales
As the person in charge of Boruto: Naruto Next Generation, it is Ikemoto's duty to come up with ideas to keep the series afloat. As things stand, Boruto is losing fans every month, and it won't be long before the series becomes obscure and is canceled. So, the author needs to find a way to fix the situation.
Luckily for him, there is a simple way to resolve this problem, and that is to make use of Naruto characters. Masashi Kishimoto built a massive world that is filled with all manner of characters, and many of them have large fan bases. So, if Ikemoto were to use the Naruto characters, it would immediately draw a large audience to Boruto.
Ikemoto may have started Boruto with the idea of doing something different, but it is quite apparent that things haven't worked out. So, it is important to change the approach to ensure that the sales improve. Incorporating Naruto characters into the story will not give Ikemoto the freedom to guide the story in a new direction, but it will also help rekindle fans' interest.
The author can pick from a plethora of old characters like Tsunade, Mei Terumi, Kakashi, Kabuto, Ino, Shino, and many others. While these characters aren't necessarily overpowered, they do have other qualities that Ikemoto can use to enhance the story. Also, fans always like it when older characters are brought back for meaningful contributions.
Ikemoto Needs To Treat Older Characters Better
One of the main problems that fans have with Boruto is how Ikemoto has treated Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha. It's safe to say that the Naruto manga's success is built on the shoulders of the two characters. When they were robbed of their biggest abilities and beaten by almost every villain, it felt extremely disrespectful. Naruto even lost Kurama, whom he considered a dear friend.
The most surprising thing was that there was absolutely no need for Naruto to lose Kurama, and it was solely done to make the hero weaker. Sasuke shared a similar fate as he lost his Rinnegan, which was his strongest weapon. In addition to making Naruto and Sasuke weaker, Ikemoto also sidelined them from the story. It's understandable that the author wants more focus on the newer generation, but that doesn't mean that they can't coexist.
A lot of people who read Boruto want Naruto and Sasuke to be restored to their full glory. If Ikemoto finds a way to bring back Naruto and Sasuke, it will prove a major blessing for the series. People who stopped reading will certainly be intrigued by the return of two of the greatest anime characters in history. Once the manga sales improve, there's a chance that Studio Pierrot will be put under pressure to start production on the anime adaptation.
Fans already know that the Boruto anime has been on a break for years, and it was due to various reasons. One of the main reasons was the obnoxious amount of fillers. Viewers do not hate fillers, but it is a big problem when an anime has less canon content. Studio Pierrot decided to keep on releasing filler material to prevent the anime from catching up to the manga. But this approach is detrimental to the overall fame of the series. Hopefully, the studio will only bring back the anime when there is enough content for at least 20–30 episodes.
