This article contains spoilers from the Boruto: Two Blue Vortex manga.
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex is setting up the stage for the next Shinju fight, but the strongest ninjas of the old generation remain sealed, missing, or out of reach. Naruto Uzumaki is unable to protect the village, and so is Sasuke Uchiha; leaving the next generation, such as Boruto and Sarada, to step into their roles far sooner than expected.
That’s not all, as fans are still waiting for Kakashi Hatake’s appearance in the Boruto manga, hoping the Sixth Hokage will return in time to help Konoha survive its darkest hour yet. And with the current direction of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, a well-timed comeback for Kakashi might be exactly what some of the characters need, especially Shikamaru, who has been carrying the heavy burden of leading Konoha in Naruto’s absence.

Naruto Uzumaki lost some of his powers, but he might gain a new Kekkei Genkai when he returns in Boruto.
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Still Hasn’t Shown Kakashi Hatake
Kakashi Shows Up in the Boruto Anime but Not In the Manga
- Kakashi Hatake is not in the Boruto manga.
- Kakashi only shows up as an advisor in the Boruto anime.
If there’s anyone who needs to appear in the Boruto manga, it’s Kakashi Hatake, whose absence has left so many fans questioning his role in the story. His status remains unclear, whether he is simply enjoying his personal time away from shinobi affairs or working on a secret mission that keeps him away from the village, much like Jiraiya, who often operated out of Konoha.
Perhaps Kishimoto and Ikemoto are also reserving Kakashi for a dramatic comeback, ensuring his return has maximum impact on fans. With how things are going in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex now, Kakashi might reappear at the height of the Shinju conflict or even before, taking on a high-risk covert mission that directly impacts the plans of Jura and the humanoid God Trees, or stepping in as a mentor and advisor not only for Sarada but also for Shikamaru.
Fans continue to speculate about what keeps Kakashi busy, especially now that the political climate in Konoha has grown more complicated with Naruto’s absence and the appearance of a new character named Kobu, the advisor of the Land of Fire’s feudal lord. This led many fans to speculate that Kakashi will step in once again as Konoha’s Hokage the moment Shikamaru resigns or is forced out of his position.
Kakashi Might Replace Shikamaru as Interim Hokage
Kakashi Might Become Hokage Again
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 26 sheds more light on the current political situation in Konoha after the elders summoned Shikamaru for organizing the last mission in the Land of the Wind. Shikamaru is in deep trouble, and it seems like there’s no stopping Kobu and the elders from finding out the truth about Shikamaru's collaboration with Boruto, who is still labeled as Naruto’s killer due to the effects of Eida’s Omnipotence.
On top of that, the elders are also investigating Boruto’s unexpected escape from custody during his interrogation in Konoha, putting Shikamaru under intense scrutiny. Kobu seems determined to find the mole who is secretly helping and communicating with Boruto, increasing the pressure on Shikamaru. With political stakes rising, Shikamaru now faces the very real possibility of losing his position as interim Hokage.
Every day, I eat, sleep, and worry about stupid things. My job is to ensure that these kids have as many days as possible where they can be idiots like this.—Kakashi
If so, Kakashi Hatake could be called upon to step in once again as Hokage, just as Hiruzen Sarutobi acted as a stabilizing force after Minato Namikaze’s untimely death. However, knowing Kakashi, he would probably assess the situation first before agreeing to take on the responsibility.
Ikemoto Says Kakashi Might Appear In Boruto Manga
Kakashi’s Role Is Still Unconfirmed
Kakashi Hatake is greatly missed in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, and Ikemoto knows fans have been waiting for a very long time to see him in action, not in the anime, but in the manga. The same can be said for other older-generation ninjas with little to no appearance in the Boruto manga, such as Lady Tsunade, whose name has only been mentioned once and whose face has only appeared in portraits displayed in the Hokage office.
In a past interview with Ikemoto, however, he hinted at Kakashi’s future role in the Boruto manga, though details remain vague. Still, the possibility that Kakashi could show up keeps fans excited, as many speculate that he might have a crucial role later on.
