Summary
- Karma shortcuts personal growth in Boruto, undermining the shonen trope of hard work and perseverance.
- Fans find Karma boring due to lack of variety and development among users, lacking emotional weight.
- Boruto might eventually master Karma with more depth and backstory, potentially making it more engaging.
The new Boruto Uzumaki in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex is completely different from his younger and more immature self. Since Momoshiki implanted a karma seal in Boruto, his world has drastically changed, including his power level. While the power of Karma can dramatically spike Boruto’s power to new heights, many fans are not impressed with this modern upgrade.
Boruto is not the only one who has access to the abilities tied with karma. Fans know Kawaki has better control than Boruto with karma, which allows him to use its abilities without fear of losing himself. But just because the most relevant characters in the Boruto manga possess this ability, fans will automatically like it. Sure, it has a cool and badass design, but it is still the most boring power for many fans, and here’s why.

Why Karma Is the Most Boring Power in Boruto
Karma Falls Flat and Fails to Excite Fans
Times have changed in Boruto, and so have the abilities of the next generations of ninja. In particular, the introduction of Karma shortcuts the personal growth of fan-favorite characters like Boruto and Kawaki. In other words, Karma removes the element of personal growth and undermines the shonen trope of earning strength through hard work, training, and perseverance, which Naruto and the rest of the older generation have repeatedly shown in the past.
Remember when Naruto fans celebrated the success of Team 7 when they learned how to climb a tree without using their hands? That’s not going to happen in Boruto sooner or later, as the power of all karma users spikes drastically even without them having to train or work for it in a meaningful way. It becomes an overly convenient but predictable ability, almost as if the series has given up on making it more exciting.
I'm gonna shoulder the fate of this world.—Boruto
While the Karma’s design is cool, especially when it’s activated, there’s no variety or personal flair among the known users. Fans have seen the karma work similarly with just little to no visual or ability-based differences, unlike the Sharingan and the Rinnegan. On top of that, the Boruto series seemingly forces Karma as the new central ability of the franchise even without proper buildup.
There are still a number of reasons why fans think Karma is the most boring power in the franchise. From the lack of emotional weight and symbolism to being a recycled plot device, fans can enumerate more reasons why Karma feels more underwhelming than most powers in Boruto.
Is There a Way to Make Karma Less Boring?
Will Karma Ever Get Better?
To this day, many fans think Karma is bland and underwhelming due to its lack of depth and lore, but even so, others maintain a positive attitude that it will get better. After all, the Boruto: Two Blue Vortex manga is still ongoing, and there are no signs it’s going to end anytime soon. This is good news for hopeful fans, as karma still has the potential to be a more engaging plot device sooner or later.
For example, the Boruto manga could show readers the struggle of mastering Karma’s full potential in the future. Instead of Boruto mastering the full power of karma too quickly, the series can show the slow and painful process behind the scenes, just like how Naruto learned Rasengan in the past. The setbacks and other mishaps should be added for karma to carry more emotional weight and payoff.
On the other hand, the Boruto manga could also grant Boruto or Kawaki distinct karma abilities depending on their personality, chakra nature, or the Otsutsuki member tied to them. In addition, the series could also introduce non-combat uses of karma to maintain its uniqueness.

Boruto Inches Closer to Mastering Karma’s Full Power
As of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter 23, Boruto has yet to master the full power of Karma, despite the time skip. In fact, he has never used the powers of karma in Two Blue Vortex at all because of Momoshiki Otsutsuki’s potential return and his hostility toward his precious friends and loved ones.
However, it’s clear that he’s doing a very good job keeping Momoshiki at bay and that he has more control over Karma now. If this continues, it will not be a surprise if Boruto’s next upgrade in the manga will be him mastering the full power of Momoshiki’s karma. Hopefully, by then, fans will feel more excitement about Karma’s role instead of just seeing it as a boring, generic power-up.
