While Boruto is currently busy fighting Jura in Two Blue Vortex, Kawaki remains in Konoha, ordering Amado to use any means necessary to make him stronger beyond all limits possible. With the threat of the Shinju Clones still unresolved, Kawaki aims to protect Konoha, the precious village that Naruto has worked extremely hard to defend ever since he became a ninja.

Now that Amado has rescinded Kawaki’s limiters, it may only be a matter of time before he heads straight into the battlefield to finish the Shinju Clones alongside Boruto as part of their temporary truce. For now, Kawaki somehow remains on the side of the lesser evil, refusing to allow any kind of threat that will potentially destroy the village Naruto grew up in. Even if it means teaming up with Boruto, whom he wants to eliminate because of Momoshiki, Kawaki is more than willing to set aside his goals to defend the Hidden Leaf.

Fans have never forgotten the disturbing prologue of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, where Kawaki declares that "the age of shinobi is over." This is a bold and ominous statement coming from Kawaki that may suggest he has become the destroyer that fans have been fearing all along. In addition, Konoha was in ruins, as the Hokage Rock that overlooks the hidden village was in shambles. Because of this, fans pin the blame on Kawaki, assuming he was the one responsible for Konoha's destruction, including the possible death of key characters.

But at this point, it seems unlikely for Kawaki to destroy Konoha in the future. His obsession with protecting Naruto is what drives his actions forward, and destroying Konoha seems the very last thing he would do.
For now, Kawaki sees it as his duty to protect everything that matters to Naruto, except, of course for Boruto. By eliminating all the Otsutsuki in existence and sealing Naruto without his consent, he has resorted to drastic methods to protect the only person he cares about. These actions already make him an antihero due to his willingness to cross lines and make hard choices, even if it means he becomes a villain in the eyes of everyone.

Kawaki Is Both
For Naruto, Kawaki may just be a broken soul who needs to be filled with genuine love and care from a parental figure. He understands Kawaki’s pain, grief, and tragic past more than anyone else, as he was once in the same position as him. However, as Naruto becomes increasingly close to Kawaki, the latter becomes fiercely protective of the former. Now that Kawaki has found a parental figure, a person he doesn’t want to lose, someone he truly cares about, he grows paranoid to the point of obsession.

Kawaki’s desire to protect Naruto led him to take morally gray or outright dark actions. He was willing to eliminate Boruto without hesitation just to ensure Naruto’s safety. He was even willing to seal Naruto in another dimension to prevent powerful enemies from hunting him down, even without Naruto’s consent. His protectiveness crosses the line into obsession, turning him into a destroyer.
All in all, Kawaki walks a fine line between being a protector and a destroyer. While his actions are driven by a desire to protect Naruto and avoid losing him, his methods are undeniably questionable. It’s still too early to definitively brand him as either, as the story of the Boruto series is still far from over. Whether Kawaki redeems himself or fulfills the prophecy of destruction, one thing remains clear: he has all the means to change his fate.
