This article contains spoilers from the Boruto: Two Blue Vortex manga.

Konoha is in chaos in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, and fans understand that a symbol of hope and peace, the Eighth Hokage, is needed to restore balance and unite the village once again. While Shikamaru is leading Konoha as Interim Hokage, he is at risk of losing the position, with Kobu and the Elders coming after him for his questionable actions and decisions involving Boruto.

Boruto Uzumaki is still at large in Konoha, but Shikamaru has been working with him, unbeknownst to the Elders and most of the ninjas in Konoha. Now, he is under fire for compromising Konoha’s security, especially after Naruto has been sealed and the Humanoid God Trees begin targeting powerful ninjas across nations. That said, it won’t be a surprise if the real Eighth Hokage is appointed soon, replacing Shikamaru in the Boruto manga.

Shikamaru Could Lose His Position Any Time Soon

Shikamaru Will Be Interrogated

  • Shikamaru is under investigation for helping Boruto.
  • Kobu and the Elders are coming for Shikamaru, suspecting him as a Konoha traitor.

Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 26 made it clear that Shikamaru was at risk of losing his position as Interim Hokage of Konoha for collaborating with Boruto Uzumaki, who fans know has switched places with Kawaki due to the effects of Eida’s Omnipotence. While Shikamaru was able to explain his side, his justification only deepened the tension within the village.

That’s not all, as Shikamaru is now the prime suspect as the insider who may have deliberately aided Boruto’s escape from Konoha. Combined with his actions and decisions in the Land of the Wind mission, his credibility as Interim Hokage is hanging by a thread, with growing calls from Kobu and the Elders to interrogate him and uncover the truth behind his alliance with Boruto.

Kashin Koji, on the other hand, has advised Shikamaru to tread carefully, as even the slightest misstep could brand him as a traitor, risking not only his position as Interim Hokage but also his role in Boruto’s mission to take down Jura and the Shinju Clones. After all, Kashin Koji confirmed Shikamaru should stay within Konoha’s leadership, where he can discreetly exchange and relay critical information to Boruto.

Kawaki Uzumaki Could Be Appointed as Eighth Hokage

Naruto Uzumaki’s Successor May Be Kawaki

In the event that Shikamaru loses his position as Interim Hokage of Konoha, Kobu and the Elders may appoint Kawaki Uzumaki as the official Eighth Hokage, successor of the legendary Naruto Uzumaki. He is one of the obvious choices in their eyes, a powerful and youthful ninja who has the strength and courage to protect Konoha against Otsutsuki-level threats. He might be young, but he is still a promising ninja.

With Kawaki switching places with Boruto, it’s only right for the son of the Seventh Hokage to succeed his father’s legacy and become the Eighth Hokage. Fans have seen young ninjas lead Konoha in the past, and not to mention, the Elders have a history of entrusting the village's future to controversial candidates whose methods or motives were often debated, such as Danzo Shimura.

I'll decide things from here on.—Kawaki

However, fans know how Kawaki has little to no interest in the politics in Konoha, let alone the responsibilities that come with being Hokage. His only true motivation has always been protecting Naruto, the man who saved him and gave him a family. Still, if becoming Hokage would allow Kawaki to gain more authority and resources to protect Naruto, he might be willing to accept the title.

Other Characters Who Could Become Eighth Hokage

From Kakashi to Sakura Haruno

Kawaki is not the only possible candidate for the Hokage position, as many fans still look to Sasuke Uchiha, Sakura Haruno, Konohamaru Sarutobi, and even the former Hokage, Kakashi Hatake, as rightful successors to Naruto’s legacy. However, Sasuke is still missing in action, making it less likely for him to return and assume such a politically demanding role.

Sakura, on the other hand, is busy tending to her commitments at the village hospital, whereas Kakashi Hatake has never shown himself in the Boruto manga. Meanwhile, Konohamaru Sarutobi remains an active jonin, but it’s painfully clear that he’s nowhere near the level of power and authority needed to command respect in the village. If Konoha were to appoint a new Hokage without considering former leaders like Kakashi and Tsunade, it could be between Kawaki or a new face supported by Kobu and the Elders.
