This article contains spoilers from the Boruto series.
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex is doing well to fix some of the biggest mistakes of the first part of the story, and fans are enjoying the series as it continues. Whereas the first part of the story ignored exploration, fans now find themselves traveling all across the ninja, world. But, most importantly, Boruto is now giving attention to the side cast of powerful characters.
After 10 Years, Sasuke Uchiha Finally Unlocks A New Power In Boruto
Sasuke is getting a major power upon his return to the Boruto series.
There are many strong ninjas that live in the world of Boruto at the moment, and fans know very well that they need to be utilized better. It just so happens that the author of the series Mikio Ikemoto, who works together with the supervisor, Masashi Kishimoto, has plans to reintroduce a legendary ninja from the old era into the story soon. As some may have guessed, this ninja is Konoha's Sixth Hokage, Kakashi Hatake. With immense power up his sleeve, Kakashi Hatake is most certainly going to be incredibly important going forward, especially given the current predicament Konoha finds itself in, in regards to the traitor, Boruto Uzumaki.
Kakashi Hatake Could Return In Boruto Very Soon
At the moment, Kakashi Hatake is nowhere to be seen in the Boruto story, but that could change very soon, when one takes a look at the current political situation in Konoha. Currently, Konoha doesn't really have a Hokage. Their Seventh Hokage has been proclaimed dead, and Shikamaru stands in his stead, but has refused to officially be declared as the Eighth Hokage despite immense pressure. In simple words, Konoha doesn't even have a Hokage at the moment.
The next generation will always surpass the old one. That's just the way of the ninja world. — Kakashi Hatake
To make things worse, Shikamaru is suspected of treason, which means he could be stripped of all power and authority very soon. If that happens, Konoha needs someone else to lead them, and the only experienced one who can actually do that is Kakashi Hatake. Ikemoto himself was planning to return of Kakashi Hatake some time ago. Here's what he had to say about it:
Q: Are there any Naruto characters that have yet to appear in Boruto that you would love to have a chance to design in their older form?
Ikemoto: It'd be a spoiler. But you have to wonder: why doesn't Kakashi-sensei get much screen time even though he's such a popular character? What a mystery. Not that I can say anything about it.
Kakashi Might Be Konoha's Next Hokage
While it may not look likely to the fans right now, the fact is that Kakashi Hatake could very well end up becoming the next Hokage of Konoha. This wouldn't even be something unprecedented. When the Fourth Hokage died, Konoha went back to the Third Hokage to lead them instead of electing a Fifth Hokage immediately. Similarly, until the right candidate comes of age, Konoha would rather go back to Kakashi Hatake to serve as Hokage.
It's Time To Welcome The New Itachi Uchiha Of The Naruto Franchise
Itachi has a new heir, and it's a character from Boruto.
You'll be the Sixth Hokage, Kakashi. You'll lead the village for me. — Obito Uchiha
Boruto's Lack Of Attention To The Old Cast Needs To Be Addressed
Kakashi becoming the next Hokage would bring him back under the spotlight in the Boruto series and that's absolutely necessary at the moment. While Boruto: Two Blue Vortex has done incredibly well to fix some of the biggest issues with the story, a big issue that still persists is a lack of screen time for the old generation of characters. Kakashi Hatake being involved in the story would go a long way to fix this issue, and fans absolutely cannot wait to see what he would have to offer to the village as a leader in his old age, where he might be weaker than before, but also far more mature and experienced.
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex's chapter 28 is set for its official release on November 20, 2025. The release time of the chapter is 10 AM EST/ 3 PM UTC. As always, fans can read the chapter officially for free on the Manga Plus and the Shonen Jump apps.
