This article contains spoilers from Boruto: Two Blue Vortex.

Compared to Boruto Part 1, the stakes in Two Blue Vortex are much higher, with Jura and the God Trees posing major threats, while Sasuke Uchiha and Naruto Uzumaki are missing in action. To remedy this situation, some characters are assuming greater responsibility, which grants them opportunities to improve in different ways.

On that note, many Boruto characters have improved drastically in Two Blue Vortex, whether in power, authority, personal role, or development of unique techniques, pushing them to levels far beyond what fans have seen in the first part. From Boruto Uzumaki to Himawari, here are the most improved characters in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex.

Sumire Kakei

Sumire Is More Than Just a Love Interest

Sumire Kakei started as a research assistant who holds a not-so-secret crush on Boruto in the manga. In the anime, she was the central character in the Academy Entrance Arc, where she unleashed the Nue on Konoha. However, she didn't stay in the spotlight and wasn’t relevant in later battles, unlike other characters such as Sarada, Mitsuki, and even Kawaki.

At present, in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, Sumire has grown significantly, with her role as one of the two non-Otsutsuki characters immune to Eida’s omnipotence. Her romantic feelings for Boruto also drive her to take a more proactive role in Konoha, as she tries to figure out Amado Sanzu’s real intentions and Kawaki’s goals. She even became a crucial factor in Sarada’s development. Just recently, Boruto entrusted her with Sasuke’s sword, which speaks volumes about his trust in her abilities.

Konohamaru

Konohamaru Is More Proactive in Village Affairs

At this point, many fans are still disappointed with Konohamaru Sarutobi in Boruto, despite his occasional contributions and his role as a mentor to the new Team 7. Almost every Naruto fan thought he could step up as a major character, where they could see him in heated battles, proving his worth as Hiruzen’s grandson and Naruto Uzumaki’s rival and successor.

Even so, Konohamaru’s improvement in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex is undeniable, despite the slip-ups he had in that Land of the Wind mission. Temporarily outsmarting a Shinju Clone and taking on Matsuri proves Konohamaru’s capabilities, with his instant double giant Rasengan underscoring his development. His role is expected to grow, contingent on his decision to back Shikamaru and Boruto.

Inojin Yamanaka

Inojin Receives a Major Power-Up

Inoji Yamanaka is one of those characters who was sidelined in the Boruto manga. He shows up only when necessary, but he is mostly irrelevant and has little impact on the overarching plot of the series.

Surprisingly, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex allows Inojin to shine, making him the first of the next-generation shinobi to receive significant character development after being overlooked for so long.

Now, Inojin has an intense drive to protect Himawari from anyone, especially against Jura and the Shinju Clones. His Mind Body Technique has also been upgraded in preparation against Shinju Mamushi’s Division ability.

Eida

Eida's Relationship With Other Characters Improved

The current Eida is way different than her former self in Boruto Part 1. Before, she was obsessed with the idea of love, forcing herself into situations where she could get closer to Kawaki just to feel the butterflies in her stomach. She was also rude and cold towards Boruto, seeing her as nothing but a child with Otsutsuki abilities.

Now, Eida has grown significantly, especially in the way she interacts with other characters. She chose to remain friends with Sumire and Sarada despite knowing their real intentions, and she has taken a liking to Boruto, showing that Eida can genuinely care about others and form bonds, not just focus on herself. What’s even more surprising is that Eida has been neglecting Kawaki, putting her focus elsewhere.

Shikamaru

Shikamaru Replaces Naruto and Leads Konoha

If it weren’t for Shikamaru, Konoha would be in serious trouble after Naruto Uzumaki was sealed in the Daikokuten Dimension. As interim Hokage, he was responsible for the entire village, coordinating defenses, managing missions, and making critical decisions no other shinobi, not even Naruto, could boldly make.

In Naruto’s absence, Shikamaru stepped up for the village, organizing countermeasures against Code, Jura, and the Shinju Clones, and even Boruto. With the effects of Omnipotence still in place, Shikamaru still manages to maintain an open mind, carefully analyzing every situation as his instincts tell him.

Kashin Koji

Kashin Koji Becomes Boruto's Partner

Following Sasuke’s tragic absence, Kashin Koji suddenly appeared to guide Boruto Uzumaki, not as his mentor, but as his partner-in-crime. Without Kashin Koji, Boruto would have struggled to advance his skills, as Koji’s prescience, or Ten Directions, effectively gave him a shortcut to mastering his overpowered new jutsu.

Back then, Kashin Koji was working with Kara and had zero intentions of helping someone like Boruto grow stronger. All he had was his goal to eliminate Jigen, but that was ancient history now. After awakening his shinjutsu, Kashin Koji dedicated his time to making Boruto stronger, helping him with detailed accounts of future events. He even extended his help to Konoha, as he shares the same goal of defeating Jura and the Shinju Clones, at least for now.

Himawari Uzumaki

Himawari Picks Up Shinobi Skills

Characters Himawari Uzumaki Surpasses In Boruto Image by Rei Penber/ The Best War Games

Himawari Uzumaki is one of the best characters in Boruto, who experienced a drastic improvement in terms of role and power. Before, Himawari was mostly seen as a cute side character with limited involvement in the series, someone who only existed for lighthearted moments with Boruto and her family.

Now, following the sealing of her parents and her brother’s unfortunate fate, she has matured significantly. Himawari is stepping up big time, and sooner or later, she will be fighting for her life against the Shinju Clones. With Kurama by her side, she wields immense chakra and destructive power, making her a game-changer on the battlefield.

Kawaki Uzumaki

Amado Removes Kawaki's Limiters

Boruto Kawaki New Power Up

Kawaki Uzumaki has also improved drastically from his former self in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex. While he has yet to move on from his painful history with Isshiki and Kara, he is now responsible for his own fate, making decisions independently, believing what he thinks is right and wrong, and forging his path with strong determination. He refuses to be controlled, dictated, and manipulated, even though his actions are still driven by his obsession to protect Naruto Uzumaki.

In addition, with regard to his power-ups, Kawaki Uzumaki’s limiters have been disabled after Amado adjusted his battle settings. He is now stronger than ever, as evident in his fight against Jura in the Land of the Wind, where he overwhelmed him with his unregulated true power.

Sarada Uchiha

Sarada Accepts Her Real Feelings

Boruto Strongest Uchiha Clan Member Sarada Uchiha

Sarada Uchiha has been through a lot of situations where her emotions were tested, which eventually changed her for the better. She, herself, surprisingly admitted her inner struggles in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, and that speaks so much about her character development.

Fans know how hard it is for Sarada to open up about her insecurities and vulnerabilities, especially when it’s related to her feelings for Boruto, which makes her improvement more impressive. Beyond the power-up she unlocked, Sarada has improved her emotional resilience, showing she can face challenges both on and off the battlefield.

Boruto Uzumaki

Boruto Is Stronger Than Naruto and Sasuke

Boruto Has Created His Own Jutsu

Boruto Uzumaki is the most improved character in the series, not just in terms of attitude, personality, and behavior, but also in skill and combat prowess. After the timeskip, he looked like the second coming of Sasuke Uchiha, but far more approachable and relatable.

The old Boruto, who many fans hated, has disappeared, making way for a battle-hardened and highly skilled ninja who can handle high-level threats with confidence. Despite this massive change, Boruto remains committed to his goals of restoring the Uzumaki household, no matter what happens to him.

At this point, Boruto is already stronger than Naruto, taking into account the power-ups he received before and after the timeskip.
