This article contains spoilers from the Boruto series.

Boruto: The Two Blue Vortex is moving at a blistering pace, and new battles are unfolding with each passing chapter. The fans are thoroughly loving the combat that has been illustrated by the author over the course of the last two years, and the newest arc focusing on the Shinju and Boruto Uzumaki is incredibly exciting at the moment. With Mamushi's attack on Konoha becoming more severe, fans knew that they would have some very exciting battles to look forward to in this story. In fact, Mamushi's fight against Boruto Uzumaki has already been highlighted quite a bit so far.

Boruto Uzumaki has taken a few of his clones down, with more coming. Interestingly enough, Boruto came under attack by the fans in the recent chapter, and rightly so. For any series, powerscaling is quite an important thing that the author has to pay special attention to when it comes to shonen. For Boruto, this concept is completely broken, and this is especially clear in the latest chapter, where some of the weakest characters have somehow managed to defeat some of the strongest ones.

Boruto Has Introduced Many Big Monsters In The Series

  • Shinju Are The Strongest Fighters In The Boruto Series
  • Otsutsuki Continue To Be A Big Threat

The Boruto series has done incredibly well to introduce many massive monsters in the story. When the series began, the likes of Momoshiki Otsutsuki and his kin were introduced to the fans. Later down the line, the Inners of Kara were introduced to the story, and each of them posed a significant threat to Boruto Uzumaki as well as the ninja world in general. With time, more of these monsters showed up in the story and they have continuously grown stronger since.

Currently, the biggest threat that the world of ninja faces comes in the form of the Shinju, who are monsters born from the Tentails thanks to the power of Code. The Shinju are known to be incredibly powerful. When they first debuted in the story, it was quite clear for fans to see that their abilities were on a completely different level when compared to the vast majority of characters. Even Code, who, at that time, had his powers fully unlocked following his meeting with Amado, struggled in battle against Shinju. Boruto Uzumaki, who had trained at this point in time with Sasuke Uchiha and later with Kashin Koji, also struggled to deal with the Shinju.

The story made it quite clear at this point in time that the Shinju were on a completely different level compared to the vast majority of the threats that the Boruto series had seen. This is why their threat was seen as big as it was. Every single Shinju was canonically stated to be stronger than the average Otsutsuki, and that is what made them truly special. Yet, in the future chapters of the Boruto manga, it appears that this special factor has now been stripped away from them. For some reason, the Shinju are being matched by normal shinobi that should not be able to reach that level of strength at all. At the moment, the powerscaling of Boruto makes no sense at all.

The Powerscaling In Boruto Doesn’t Make Any Sense At All

  • Boruto Has Broken The Powerscaling Fully

When the ordeal with the Shinju began, fans were quite confused as to how some normal shinobi were able to match the power of the Shinju. At the time, fans did not pay much attention to it. But with time, it has become increasingly clear that the author does not care about proper powerscaling, or is very bad at it. For instance, when the arc in the Sand Village took place, for some reason, Boruto Uzumaki and his teammates struggled against the Shinju at first. This was quite a clear indication from the author that the Shinju were on a completely different level, and this was required at the time because the author had previously stated that they were Otsutsuki-level threats.

I get it. You have no hope for a future. You just want to kill me and just disappear from this world as soon as possible. Unless, you have a chance to obtain freedom, that is. These divine beings are a threat to both of us. Will you help me or not? — Boruto Uzumaki to Momoshiki Otsutsuki, Boruto: TBV chapter 29

However, later down the line, it was rather strange to see that the likes of Araya, Yodo, and others were able to match the Shinju in power. Fans thought that this was a fluke, but later on, even Konohamaru managed to almost kill one of the Shinju, and fans know that Konohamaru isn't even as strong as an average Kage, yet he was somehow taking down someone on the level of Otsutsuki.

Mamushi Broke Boruto's Powerscaling

In the subsequent arc, Ikemoto has done something even crazier. When Mamushi attacked Konoha, it became quite clear that he was going to cause all sorts of problems for the Shinobi of the village, and this was mostly because of his incredible ninjutsu. Mamushi has the special ability to split himself into multiple clones. However, his clones aren't just regular shadow clones. When one uses shadow clones, their chakra splits equally, and their strength is divided as well. This is one of the biggest drawbacks of using any clone-type technique. But to Mamushi, this does not apply.

Mamushi's ability is to increase his numbers as much as he wants. He doesn't lose strength or chakra when he does this. But there is a drawback. The more he splits himself, the more his intelligence drops as well. — Kashin Koji

This is because Mamushi's power does not split at all when he makes a clone of himself, nor does his chakra reserve. The only thing that drops is his intelligence, as has been made clear in the story repeatedly. This means that when Mamushi cloned himself more than fifty times, his power did not drop even a single bit, and all of the fifty clones were equal to the Otsutsuki-level power that he was introduced with.

  • Chocho Is A Very Weak Genin
  • Her Powers Make No Sense

Now, in the most recent chapter of Boruto, fans saw small-time characters such as Chocho somehow take down these Otsutsuki-level clones in battle with a simple Expansion jutsu, and that absolutely makes no sense. Chocho should not be strong enough to take down Otsutsuki-level threats. Of course, it goes without saying that the intelligence of Mamushi's clones has dropped dramatically, but that still doesn't mean that they should fall from one Expansion Jutsu that characters from part 1 of Naruto can perform.

Otsutsuki should have far more durability than that, as well as enough strength to kill people even if their intelligence is extremely low. This makes absolutely no sense whatsoever and has ruined Boruto's powerscaling forever.

Boruto Needs A Better Direction In Writing

Boruto Needs A Better Direction In Writing

The powerscaling in Boruto hardly made any sense to begin with, but, in the latest manga chapter, it makes even less sense. Fans had assumed that the likes of Boruto Uzumaki, Sarada Uchiha, and many other new generation characters had already surpassed the likes of Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke, but, looking at the current state of events where even Chocho is taking down Otsutsuki-level enemies, it is clear that Naruto would absolutely demolish these characters with ease, as would Sasuke.

This gives fans renewed hope that these characters will be monstrously powerful when they come back. But, at the same time, it also means that the power scaling in the series is beyond repair at this point, and there is nothing that any fan can do about it.
