Summary

  • Boruto's new powers, like Rasengan Uzuhiko, place him above Naruto's strength levels in the series.
  • Sarada's Mangekyo Sharingan ability, Ohirume, surpasses her father's abilities, setting her apart in power.
  • Naruto and Sasuke's powers were nerfed in Boruto to make way for the new generation, shown to be stronger earlier.

As a continuation of the Naruto series, Boruto: Naruto Next Generations has clearly upped the ante in terms of the characters' power levels and the subsequent antagonistic threats. With the concept of the next generation being stronger than the previous one being embedded into the Naruto franchise, it was certain that the next generation of shinobi, such as Boruto, Sarada, and even Kawaki, are set to surpass their predecessors. However, with the events in the Boruto: Two Blue Vortex manga, it's clear that Boruto and Sarada have already surpassed Naruto and Sasuke.

With newly unlocked powers that break the Boruto series’ power scaling, along with battles against threats that surpass the Otsutsuki, Boruto and Sarada have leaped to an entirely new level. While Sarada and Boruto’s strength remains a topic of debate within the community, the recent events in the manga have clearly pointed towards the fact that the two characters have almost clearly reached a point where they mirror the strength of their parents.

Mitsuki has been a promising character, yet he hasn't exactly lived up to his true potential in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex.

Naruto and Sasuke's Peak Strength

Naruto and Sasuke's Strength Became Stagnant After Shippuden

Naruto and Sasuke's strength and power levels are quite controversial within the Naruto fandom, especially considering how they were nerfed to the ground in the Boruto series. While this was done to serve the plot, especially in their fight against Jigen, there's no denying that this was part of the narrative. While it might have seemed like the narrative was forcefully trying to bring down Naruto and Sasuke's strengths, the new antagonistic threats have proven that even at their peak strength, they would have struggled to defeat them.

This holds true for the Otsutsuki threats, Code, and the Shinju clones as well. With Naruto losing Kurama and Sasuke’s Rinnegan being snatched away, the two now hold no chance against the current threats in Boruto. However, even with their respective powers intact, they struggled quite a bit against the members of Kara and Isshiki Otsutsuki. While it’s true that the Boruto series underplayed their overall strength in these battles, the new threats in the series have reached a point where their peak strength wouldn’t have been enough to subdue these foes.

The power level scaling in Boruto has been quite unpredictable, yet there's still no denying that the two characters have faded into the background to let the newer generations shine. The Boruto series has clearly set a precedent that Naruto and Sasuke are no longer the strongest characters in the Naruto universe, making way for the new generation to make their mark.

Boruto's Newfound Powers in Two Blue Vortex

Boruto's New Powers Allowed Him to Surpass Naruto

Out of all the primary characters in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, Boruto is arguably the one that has received the most power-ups. Whether it's his improved Karma mark or the techniques that he gained under Koji Koshin's training, Boruto has come out as a powerhouse with strength that far exceeds that witnessed in the case of Naruto's post-time skip strength. Moreover, as Two Blue Vortex has progressed, Boruto has gained even more strength, deeming him one of the strongest characters in the Boruto manga right now.

While his true strength hasn't been put on display so far, the techniques that he has gained during the time skip are enough of an indicator to speculate exactly how strong Boruto is right now. The newest ability that Boruto has gained during the time skip was witnessed during the second chapter of Two Blue Vortex. Boruto's spin on the iconic Rasengan, Rasengan Uzuhiko, puts Boruto on the map as an unrivaled shinobi, as it is arguably the strongest derivative technique of the Rasengan. Rasengan Uzuhiko uses the planet’s rotation to siphon planetary chakra, in turn using this chakra to conjure a powerful attack that sends the opponent plunging through the air. Currently, Rasengan Uzuhiko has two variations, with the first one being a smaller-scale attack that can disorient opponents and take away their sense of balance and gravity for a while.

Juvenile Ten-Tails Boruto
Boruto: The Juvenile Ten-Tails Has Changed Everything, But Where Did It Come From

The Juvenile Ten-Tails has become a central element for Boruto's plot, but where exactly did it come from?

The second version is much more deadly, as one hit by the attack can completely annihilate the target. Boruto also learned the Flying Raijin Jutsu during the time skip as well, a feat that can be attributed to Koji Kashiin's Ten Directions. However, even with Koji Kashin’s help, mastering a technique that has only been used by two shinobi in history is a feat in itself. Moreover, Boruto has been able to improve upon the technique even more, as he can use the Flying Raijin Jutsu to teleport to other dimensions, an aspect of the power that was not used by both Minato and Tobirama. With such a powerful technique in his hands, coupled with his Karma Mark powers, Boruto has become a truly unstoppable force, clearly overtaking Naruto's precedence in the Boruto series. While some might argue that Boruto doesn't compare to Naruto with his Bayron Mode, it's still fair to state that Boruto's powers right after the timeskip far exceed anything that Naruto was able to achieve in the first half of Shippuden, clearly showcasing how the former has outpaced the latter.

How Sarada Surpassed Sasuke's Strength

Sarada's Mangekyo Sharingan Has Led to Her Outpacing Sasuke

Sarada Mangekyo Sharingan Ohirume Jutsu

Sarada Uchiha has largely remained an underdog in the Boruto series. Despite being the daughter of Sasuke Uchiha and possessing the coveted Sharingan, Sarada received minimal screen time compared to her counterparts such as Boruto and Kawaki. She was also set up as Boruto's potential love interest, which sidelined her even more as a mere support character. However, Two Blue Vortex has fixed this issue that has plagued the Naruto series for so long, as the manga has given her a much more significant role in the series. In the Two Blue Vortex manga, Sarada had already become a central character after Hidari targeted her.

I just awakened it but I know exactly what it does.

While it was clear that she did not possess the strength to beat the Shinju clone at that time, she later on proved herself worthy by defeating the Shinju clone all by herself, a feat that not even other powerful characters could attain. However, Sarada was only able to achieve this feat due to her newly awakened Mangekyo Sharingan ability, Ohirume. This signature ability of the Mangekyo Sharingan allows her to open up gravitational rifts wherever she pleases, and these miniature black holes are capable of sucking in and crushing any target. So far, the technique seems to be quite unstoppable with almost little to no counters. It's worth noting that this is the very first Mangekyo Sharingan ability that has been revealed so far, meaning she is yet to attain a few more techniques down the line, such as Susanoo or possibly Amaterasu.

With such strength at her disposal already, it's clear that she has surpassed the strength and legacy of her father. It's worth considering that after the timeskip in i, Sasuke was nowhere near as strong. He was only able to gain similar strength after he acquired the Rinnegan from the Sage Of Six Paths. His Mangekyo Sharingan abilities also pale in comparison to what Sarada has been able to achieve so far with her newly awakened techniques. With such power at her disposal, Sarada is clearly a force to be reckoned with, one that has clearly surpassed her predecessors. While it's still unclear how far Sarada will go in the Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Manga, one thing is clear – Sarada has clearly surpassed her predecessors.
