Summary
- Boruto introduces powerful new jutsu that surpass those of Naruto's era.
- Techniques like Vanishing Rasengan and Lightning Release showcase the evolution of the franchise.
- Characters like Sarada and Ada bring unique abilities like Ohirume and Omnipotence to the mix.
As a continuation of the Naruto series, Boruto: Naruto Next Generation has upped the ante by throwing in all sorts of powerful characters and techniques into the mix, with some that far surpass anything seen before in the franchise. Whether it's an entirely new roster of Otsutsuki clan members making appearances occasionally, or the new antagonistic threat of the God Tree Clones, Boruto and the rest can't seem to catch a break. However, these new antagonistic threats have also raised the bar, as new techniques continue to be introduced to the narrative.
9 Things Boruto Can Do That Naruto Can't
Unlike his father, Naruto, Boruto has mastered a handful of techniques and talents—both natural and learned—that are all his own.
While some of these techniques almost break the universe with their absurd powers, they showcase exactly how far the Naruto franchise has come in terms of raising the bar when it comes to powerful techniques and jutsu. As Boruto: Two Blue Vortex continues, more techniques are likely to make their way into the narrative. For now, however, these are the strongest jutsu in the Boruto series.
10 Vanishing Rasengan
A Lightning-Infused Rasengan That Can Catch Opponents Off-Guard
|
First Appearance |
Boruto, Episode 54 "Sasuke and Boruto" |
|---|---|
|
Users |
Boruto Uzumaki, Momoshiki Uzumaki |
|
Type |
Ninjutsu |
Boruto has acquired a fair share of novel jutsu in his arsenal, and the Vanishing Rasengan was the first of these additions. The technique is a derivative jutsu of the original Rasengan, albeit with the addition of Lightning Release. The Vanishing Rasengan holds some significance for the narrative, as it was the first unique technique that Boruto acquired.
Due to Lightning Release being mixed with the spiraling ball of Chakra, the Rasengan vanishes after leaving Boruto’s palm. This leads to the opponent being caught off guard, as the invisible nature of the technique deems it unpredictable. While the jutsu might seem rather simple, it was powerful enough to defeat Momoshiki Otsutsuki.
9 Lightning Release: Purple Electricity
Kakashi's Innovative Rendition Of the Raikiri
|
First Appearance |
Boruto, Episode 13 "The Demon Beast Appears!" |
|---|---|
|
Users |
Kakashi Hatake, Boruto Uzumaki |
|
Type |
Ninjutsu |
Serving as a replacement for Kakashi’s Raikiri, Purple Electricity is a derivative technique of the original Chidori, albeit one that offers the user much more versatility. The technique was developed by Kakashi to replace his signature Lightning Cutter, since the jutsu required the Sharingan’s prowess to counter its tunnel vision.
Purple Lighting is rather versatile, as Kakashi has been witnessed using it as a short-range blade and a long-range lightning attack. In some ways, the technique is much more potent than Raikiri, though it certainly lacks the original’s menacing appearance.
8 Rasendan
Momoshiki's Take On the Iconic Rasengan
|
First Appearance |
Boruto, Episode 292 "Hunger" |
|---|---|
|
Users |
Momoshiki Otsutsuki |
|
Type |
Ninjutsu |
As a staple technique of both Naruto and Boruto, the Rasengan is arguably one of the strongest techniques in the franchise. However, its derivative techniques have proven to be even more potent, and the Rasendan is one such example. Used by Momoshiki Otsutsuki via Boruto’s body, the Rasendan is a technique similar to the Rasengan, albeit with a slight difference in form.
Instead of forming a circular sphere of chakra, the Rasendan fires a singular bullet, which pierces through the opponent. The Rasendan is superior to the Rasengan, as it delivers a similar blow, but at a much longer distance with pinpoint accuracy.
7 Claw Mark
A Space-Time Shinjutsu With Multiple Applications
|
First Appearance |
Boruto, Episode 157 "Kara's Footprints" |
|---|---|
|
Users |
Code, Hidari, Jura, Mamushi, Matsuri, Ryu |
|
Type |
Shinjutsu |
Claw Mark is a Shinjutsu originally wielded by Code, a member of Kara, though the technique was later acquired by the God Tree Clones in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex. The technique allows the user to mix the iron in their blood with chakra to manifest black bands on any surface. These marks can then be used as a portal, allowing the user to travel between them, irrespective of the distance.
Boruto: Best Fights In The Anime, Ranked
The Boruto series is laced with riveting battles and thrilling fights. Here's a look at some of the best ones in the anime.
The technique is quite akin to the Flying Raijin Jutsu, since both techniques work on similar Space-Time principles. However, Claw Marks are much more versatile, as they can be used for espionage, and even allow the user to teleport to a different dimension.
6 Sukunahikona & Daikokuten
The Kokugan's Unstoppable Techniques
|
First Appearance |
Boruto, Episode 214 "Predestined Fate" |
|---|---|
|
Users |
Isshiki Otsutsuki, Kawaki |
|
Type |
Kekkei Genkai, Shinjutsu |
Sukunahikona and Daikokuten are two sister-techniques that belong to Ishiki Otsutsuki’s Dojutsu, the Kokugan. The two techniques work in synergy and can allow the user to become an unstoppable powerhouse. Sukunahikona allows the user to shrink any object to minuscule sizes, while Daikokuten grants the user a pocket dimension that can be used to store anything that Sukunahikona shrinks.
While the two techniques seem rather simple and benign at first, their synergy was powerful enough to take down both Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha. Jigen strategically used the objects stored inside Daikokuten to catch his opponents off guard, as objects stored within the dimension are released at untraceable speeds.
5 Ten Directions
The Ability to Predict All Future Outcomes
|
First Appearance |
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, Chapter 13 "Ten Directions" |
|---|---|
|
Users |
Koji Kashin |
|
Type |
Shinjutsu |
The Boruto manga has introduced an entirely new set of ninjutsu, called Shinjutsu. These are techniques derived directly from Shibai Otsutsuki's DNA after Amado implanted the Otsutsuki gods' genetic remains into members of Kara. Ten Directions was awakened by Koji Koshin after he survived his fight against Ishiki. The technique allows him to see into the future, granting him foresight into events that will take place years ahead.
Boruto: 8 Best Character Designs, Ranked
The Boruto series features some truly breathtaking character designs for both old faces and newcomers, with these being among the very best.
While the technique doesn't necessarily have combat advantages, it still offers the user the ability to predict the outcome of any fight or event. Ten Directions has multiple applications, such as Koji Koshin training Boruto to master the Flying Raijin Jutsu in two years. Moreover, he can see all alternate possibilities, allowing him to predict the outcome of all possible actions.
4 Rasengan Uzuhiko
A Rasengan Charged By the Planet's Own Rotation
|
First Appearance |
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, Chapter 2 "Tree" |
|---|---|
|
Users |
Boruto Uzumaki |
|
Type |
Ninjutsu |
The Rasengan has come a long way since its introduction in the Naruto series, both in terms of its versatility and strength. Rasengan Uzuhiko is the latest variation of the technique, one that triumphs over all other previous variations. The technique derives chakra from the planet's rotation, with the result being a devastating blow that can kill an enemy with a single hit.
However, a less lethal variation of the technique can also be used, which would leave opponents incapacitated and impaired after a single hit. The technique serves as a perfect counter to the Otsutsuki clan, who are known to be resistant to Ninjutsu.
3 Reflection
Invincibility to All Attacks
|
First Appearance |
Boruto, Episode 289 "Qualifications" |
|---|---|
|
Users |
Daemon |
|
Type |
Shinjutsu |
Amadou's experiments on the members of Kara led to a few cyborgs awakening Shinjutsu, and Daemon was one such member. While the workings of his Shinjutsu remain a mystery, it has already been revealed that the technique is called Reflection. As the name suggests, the technique reflects any attack directed toward Daemon, whether it's physical or ninjutsu.
However, for Reflection to work, Daemon has to make physical contact with another person. While this downside can be exploited to counter Reflection, the jutsu seems to be unrivaled so far, with Daemon being invincible to all sorts of hostility.
2 Ohirume
Conjuring Black Holes to Crush Opponents
|
First Appearance |
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, Chapter 20 "Because Of Love" |
|---|---|
|
Users |
Sarada Uchiha |
|
Type |
Kekkei Genkai |
Introduced in the recent chapters of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, Ohirume is Sarada Uchiha's signature Mangekyou ability. While Sarada had unlocked her Mangekyou quite a while back due to her love for Boruto, her Mangekyou abilities remained a mystery until recently. Similar to the Kamui, Sarada can open space-time rifts to suck objects into another dimension.
Boruto: 8 Things Sarada Can Do That Sasuke Can't
It appears that Sarada may have outperformed some of Sasuke's feats when he was her age,
The technique seems uncannily similar to Kamui, though it has quite a number of differing aspects. For instance, Sarada's technique opens a space-time rift with a gravitational pull similar to a black hole, sucking anything in its vicinity. It is still unknown whether she has access to another dimension where she can store things. Though for now, Ohirume remains a mysterious power that is unlike anything seen before with the Mangekyo Sharingan.
1 Omnipotence
Rewriting Reality Itself by Altering Memories
|
First Appearance |
Boruto, Episode 288 "Captives" |
|---|---|
|
Users |
Ada |
|
Type |
Shinjutsu |
Omnipotence is a truly godly technique, as it allows reality to be altered altogether. The technique is another Shinjutsu in the hands of Ada, a cyborg who was experimented on by Amado. Omnipotence allows Ada to rewrite reality and alter the memories of every human being. While she still has no control over the technique, she was able to unintentionally alter the memories of the entire Leaf Village to believe that Kawaki is the real son of Naruto.
While there are a few characters that remain immune to omnipotence, the technique has no counters so far. If omnipotence were to be mastered, Ada would become a truly unstoppable character, as she could rewrite reality itself.
