This article contains spoilers from the Boruto manga.

When Boruto started serializing, Naruto Uzumaki was the strongest ninja who successfully united all the major villages. Under the Seventh Hokage’s watch, the entire world enjoyed an unparalleled era of peace and technological progress until powerful villains such as the likes of Momoshiki and Isshiki Otsutsuki ruined that harmony.

Years later, Naruto Uzumaki isn’t at his prime anymore, and the once unstoppable hero who saved the world has grown weaker in Boruto. While Naruto remains a highly capable and influential ninja, his overwhelming strength has noticeably declined, allowing the next generation to take on powerful villains that once required the Seventh Hokage himself.

5 Naruto Stopped Getting New Power-Ups

Naruto’s Baryon Mode Is Usable Just Once

Boruto Naruto Uzumaki Successor Hokage

In every dangerous fight Naruto Uzumaki participated in, he usually received a new power-up or transformation to get ahead of the opponent, turning seemingly impossible battles into opportunities to grow. This trend continued in Boruto until he gained access to Baryon Mode during the crucial fight with Isshiki Otsutsuki, at the cost of his and Kurama’s life forces.

At the moment, Baryon Mode stands as Naruto’s ultimate power-up, one he cannot use again after losing his status as jinchuriki of the Nine Tails. It’s been ages since Naruto unlocked a new power-up, and with no transformations on the horizon, his strength plateaued. While the next generation of ninjas gain overpowered upgrades one after another, Naruto receives nothing.

4 Naruto Is Off the Battlefield

Naruto Remains Sealed in Another Dimension

Long-time fans of the Seventh Hokage are used to seeing Naruto leading the fight against powerful villains on the battlefield. In the original series, Naruto was consistent in stepping up as the decisive force, dominating the toughest fights not only through sheer skill and power but also through compassion and determination. With Naruto fighting head-on, he even inspired his allies to push beyond their limits.

Unfortunately, Boruto removes Naruto from the battlefield, sidelining him effectively by sealing him away. Instead of seeing Naruto engage with the likes of Code, Jura, and the God Trees, he is frozen in time in the Daikokuten dimension. There, he isn’t getting stronger, and he also misses out on the most exciting fights, leaving fans longing for the unstoppable version of Naruto Uzumaki who once carried the weight of the world on his shoulders.

3 Naruto Requires Protection and Saving

Naruto’s Fate Relies on Other Characters

Boruto Naruto Surpassed Two Blue Vortex

Who would have thought that the legendary Naruto Uzumaki would now require protection and saving from the next generation to survive in Boruto? After losing Kurama, Naruto has become more vulnerable than ever, to the point that even Kawaki feels compelled to step in and protect him. Not to mention, Shikamaru and other seasoned allies have grown increasingly concerned about his welfare, monitoring his whereabouts to ensure his safety.

However, now that Naruto has been sealed away, his freedom lies entirely in the hands of others, possibly Boruto or Sarada, leaving him powerless to influence events directly. In other words, the current situation is out of Naruto’s control unless Kishimoto and Ikemoto unexpectedly give him a way to break free, train in secret, or regain his influence in the other dimension.

2 Boruto’s New Villains Are Overpowered

From Momoshiki to Jura and the God Trees

Boruto Naruto Otsutsuki Level Ninja

Did the Boruto series nerf Naruto Uzumaki or did the manga just keep on introducing overpowered villains, making even the Seventh Hokage struggle to keep up with threats he once would have handled with ease? Perhaps this is one of the questions every Naruto fan has right now, especially when considering the overwhelming power levels of the villains in Boruto.

At present, Jura is the strongest villain in Boruto, and many fans believe he could easily overpower the current Naruto if he were to face him directly. Then there’s Code, who is weaker than Jura but poses a serious threat to Naruto now that his limiters have been removed. On top of that, the Otsutsuki Clan continues to exist as a formidable force, with their god-level abilities and unpredictable actions.

1 Boruto Is Getting Stronger at Lightning Speed

Boruto Has Already Surpassed Naruto

Boruto Has Created His Own Jutsu

At this point, it’s not difficult to assume that Boruto Uzumaki has already surpassed Naruto in his own series. This would be a hard pill to swallow for long-time Naruto fans, but seeing Boruto’s growth, his rapid mastery of powerful techniques, and his potential to harness the full power of Karma with Momoshiki Otsutsuki’s cooperation makes it clear that he has already stepped into a league of his own.

That’s not all, as Boruto Uzumaki is set to receive more special upgrades in the series, whether Naruto fans like it or not. While the possibility of Naruto gaining new power-ups remains uncertain, the story is clearly campaigning for Boruto to emerge as the new strongest shinobi by giving him more room to grow. It’s not only Boruto who’s getting stronger, as Sarada Uchiha and even Himawari Uzumaki have immense potential to surpass their parents.
