The following article contains spoilers for Boruto: Naruto Next Generations and Boruto: Two Blue Vortex.
Boruto had a complicated start for many Naruto fans, but as the story progressed, it quickly showed how much potential it has to expand the franchise's lore. Two Blue Vortex is currently unfolding in an interesting way, although its monthly schedule may disappoint fans who want to learn everything as quickly as possible.
Boruto's appearance changed a lot after the timeskip, and while many people who haven't kept up with the series were surprised to see him with a scar on his right eye in the new series, he actually got his now signature wound in the final chapters of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations. But more than just a cool visual, this scar could represent something deeper — and he got it in a somewhat sweet way.
Boruto: Why Boruto and Sarada Have Already Surpassed Naruto and Sasuke
Boruto and Sarada have already surpassed Naruto and Sasuke's long-standing precedence with their newfound strength.
Boruto Got His Scar Because of Sarada
While Boruto Uzumaki's scar on his right eye in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex became something of a signature for his character, he actually got it in the final chapters of the first saga. In Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Chapter 78, Boruto and Kawaki fight each other — Kawaki had almost killed Boruto earlier, but Momoshiki healed him. Thus, Kawaki wanted to kill Boruto for good; he sees him as an enemy since Boruto "became" an Otsutsuki due to the Karma Seal implanted on him by Momoshiki (killing Boruto is still his goal in Two Blue Vortex).
Anyway, once Sarada learns that Boruto and Kawaki are fighting each other, she runs up to try to stop Kawaki, who then says that he will kill her if she tries to intervene in the battle. Of course, Sarada tries to intervene, and he attacks her — that's when Boruto jumps to protect her, and ends up with that scar on his eye.
Could There Be a Deeper Meaning to Boruto's Scar?
Boruto's scar adds a lot to his character, giving him a distinctive trait that seems to fit his "new personality" (or at least it fits the way he presents himself now). And while he got it in a fight with Kawaki, many fans speculate that the scar may symbolize a connection between him and Code.
So hurry up and do it, or else... You'll lose more than your left eye this time.
— Boruto to Code
In Two Blue Vortex, Code has a similar scar on his left eye, which he probably got fighting Boruto and Sasuke. Not only that, but they also share similar Karma designs. With so many similarities between them, it is impossible not to wonder if there is a deeper connection between these two. Code is the current leader of Kara, taking over after Isshiki was killed by Kawaki. He seems to be Boruto's primary target, although the story is now focusing on the Shinju clones.
What's Next In Boruto Two Blue Vortex?
Boruto Two Blue Vortex Chapter 21 was a turning point in the story — not only did it reveal Sarada's new Mangekyo Sharingan Ohirume jutsu, but it also revealed her true feelings for Boruto. Furthermore, it set the stage for a much-anticipated battle between Boruto and Jura.
Things are likely to become even more tense in Chapter 22, as Koji stated that Boruto would die if he fought Jura now — apparently, that's what happens in every potential future timeline that Koji was able to see. Because of this, fans are eagerly awaiting to see how things will unfold from now on, and how Boruto could eventually survive this fight against all odds.

What exactly is going on between Boruto and Sarada?
Are Boruto and Sarada a Couple?
The revelation of Sarada's feelings for Boruto was great news for BoruSara fans (and sparked shipping wars). However, even though there seems to be a clear romantic tone in the way Sarada feels about him, that doesn't mean that they will become a couple — after all, feelings can change, and bad things can happen moving forward. What is clear is that they care deeply for each other, and we will probably see more of them trying to protect each other.
The next chapter is set to be released on May 20, 2025, but the schedule is subject to sudden changes. There are many expectations that the next chapter will also bring surprises as Boruto and Jura fight each other — maybe it's finally the time for us to learn even more about the humanoid Divine Trees, and the story could finally move on to unveil more mysteries about the Otsutsuki clan.
Boruto Two Blue Vortex is available to read on MANGA Plus, in English and many other languages.
