The original Braid was released in 2008, 16 years before the release of Braid, Anniversary Edition. Developer commentary is a feature that was added for this new Edition and is not present anywhere in the original. It allows returning players to not only relive the game with enhanced visuals and sounds but also discover information they previously never knew about the game’s development.

This commentary is presented in multiple forms through interactive points during the game. It also provides a whole new world that is designed to tell players about all the key elements present throughout the entirety of the game — such as its designs and the programming techniques that went into making its time control features. For those looking to enable Developer Commentary in Braid, Anniversary Edition (or for those who simply wish to learn more about it), this guide details everything gamers need to know.

What Is Developer Commentary In Braid, Anniversary Edition?

The Commentary World in Braid, Anniversary Edition

When commentary is inactive, you will be able to make your way through the entirety of Braid, Anniversary Edition as you normally would. However, once commentary is enabled, the game will feature all manner of interactive points scattered throughout these levels. Icons that have a puzzle piece on them will offer you insight into how to overcome the challenges featured in the level where they are found.

You do not need to interact with these points to progress through the game, so attempting puzzles first is recommended. You will find many other developer commentary features, such as a painting palette that will show you concept art and a flowchart that will explain the rationality behind some of the decision-making that went into the game's development.

How To Enable Developer Commentary In Braid, Anniversary Edition

Commentary World 2-2 in Braid, Anniversary Edition

When you start the game, you will be able to start moving to the right. Doing so will have you come to the game’s hub, where you can enter various worlds through some doors. However, in order to access commentary, you will need to pause the game and select “Commentary.” This will put you into a special world known as the Commentary World. Here, you will find many books that can help you understand everything regarding how this mode works.

Proceeding to the right will have you come to a door that will transport you to World 2-2. However, this will not turn on the commentary options for the game. Continue to the right until you get to the very edge of the screen to make it pan over to reveal more doors with labels. Each of these doors will take you to a special area for a deeper understanding of the process of how the game was made — such as “The mathematics behind the clouds of World 4.”

Head to the far right to go off the map and into a new screen where you can restart the game with commentary options turned on for each of the game's levels. This will have a door appear in the hub's bathroom that you can use to return to the Commentary World.
