Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster is the big RPG at launch for the Switch 2. Even though it's over a decade old, having been first released on the 3DS in Japan in 2012, it doesn't feel that old. What makes the game so compelling to this day is the Job system. Players will get a few Jobs as they play through the campaign, but most are tied to side quests.
Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD: How to Unlock All 24 Jobs
Jobs are how players get their skills and abilities in Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD, so here's how to unlock all 24 of them.
There are well over a dozen Jobs in the game, so figuring out which ones are the best can be challenging. Let's go through the best Jobs in Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster and rank them based on their design, powers, and how useful they are inside and outside of battle.
8 Salve-Maker
Brewing Potions
- Enemy: Qada (Chapter 3: Sub Quest)
The Salve-Maker is basically an alchemist or item specialist and can be obtained by defeating Qada as part of a side quest in Chapter 3. This Job excels at items, specifically with support skills. For example, one skill can automatically heal a character with a Potion or revive them with a Phoenix Down.
Salve-Makers aren’t great in battle, but they do have some natural healing talents and can even spread the wealth of items to the whole party. Overall, this Job’s support skills make tracking down Qada worth it.
7 Swordmaster
Countermeasures
- Enemy: Nobutsuna Kamiizumi (Chapter 3: Sub Quest)
The Swordmaster is like a samurai class in other RPGs, with an emphasis on swordplay and countering. If attacked physically, the Swordmaster can counter directly after being hit.
Nobutsuna Kamiizumi used to be Edea’s master, but since she turned on her kingdom, Edea has to come face-to-face with him later in the game. It’s an impactful battle even as a side quest. The counter abilities and sword skills make this a striking Job for Edea or any character that players choose to make into a melee-focused fighter.
6 Spell Fencer
Imbuing Weapons With Weapons
- Enemy: Ciggma Khint (Chapter 1: Sub Quest)
The Spell Fencer can imbue their weapon with a spell so long as they have learned that magic ahead of time. For example, they can cast Blizzard to get ice-infused weapons or Fire to burn up enemies with a fiery vengeance.
Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster - Best Early Game Armor
A good defense is necessary for some of the gnarlier early boss battles in Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster.
This Job is tied to a series of side quests wherein Ciggma Khint will appear as a side character in other boss battles. Players have to face him three times before they can eventually get his Job, which is arduous but worth it, since any way to use the elements in battle is smart.
5 Ranger
Tackling Monster Groups
- Enemy: Artemia Venus (Chapter 2: Sub Quest)
The Ranger in Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster is unlike most ranger-type or bow-focused classes in other RPGs, as these characters will dress up as various animals like wolves. The basic gimmick of this Job allows players to attack specific sub-classes of monsters, from Plants to Beasts.
Even if players cannot exploit an elemental weakness, they can at least attack their core, which is why the Ranger is so valuable. To get this Job, players have to find and defeat Artemia Venus during a side quest in Chapter 2.
4 White Mage
A Healing Presence
- Enemy: Holly (Prologue: Main Quest)
There has to be a healer in an RPG party; otherwise, players are going to lose money on buying endless healing items. Also, most items can’t target multiple characters, unlike restorative magic used by White Mages. From Cure to Esuna, the White Mage’s medical talent is unparalleled in Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster.
Other Jobs can heal and boost stats like Speed or Defense, but White Mages are still the best supportive Job in the game. They aren’t weak either, as players can buy wind-based magic spells, like Aero, to aid in combat, or they can restore undead characters to do some damage.
3 Black Mage
Summoning The Dark Arts
- Enemy: Ominas (Prologue: Main Quest)
A Black Mage is a classic Job in RPGs, let alone in a Square Enix game. Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster’s version is almost exactly the same as all others, except that players need to buy their spells like in early Final Fantasy games.
Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster - Best Early Game Weapons
Equip these weapons and turn enemies to dust early on in Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster, no grinding needed.
Elemental magic like Thunder, Blizzard, and Fire are at the Black Mage’s core, and with them in hand, players can decimate the battlefield if they attack all enemies. There are ways to get through the game without an attack-based mage in the party, but it takes much longer to do so, which is why Black Mages are essential.
2 Monk
A Martial Arts Master
- Enemy: Barras (Prologue: Main Quest)
Players can turn the Monk into a nuclear weapon if they level it up completely. It will be one of the first Jobs that players will unlock automatically in the game, and if they have used a monk or a martial arts character in an RPG before, then Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster version won’t be at all unfamiliar.
Monks excel at hand-to-hand combat, whether players equip them with glove-based weapons or go into combat barehanded. Monks can increase their physical attack power and HP with supportive skills, and the final unlock will strip the Monk down to nothing to increase their attack power tenfold.
1 Ninja
A Dual-Wielding Shadow
- Enemy: Konoe Kikyo (Chapter 3: Sub Quest)
Players can unlock the Ninja Job deep into the game’s second half, wherein they have to find and fight Konoe Kikyo for a side quest. Like most ninja-themed classes in RPGs, the compelling part about Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster’s version is that it can dual-wield two weapons and not get punished for doing so.
Every hit with a sword or one-handed axe will hurt just as much as if they were being held by two separate characters. Ninjas have high evasion, making them hard to hit, and while their skills in battle aren’t that notable, they’re still deadly warriors for their dual-wielding abilities alone.
