Keese are mono-eyed bats that like hiding in dark caves and prefer to come out at night. As longtime enemies in the Legend of Zelda games, it's only natural they'd make a return in Breath of the Wild. Defeating enemies will drop monster parts such as fangs or horns, and the Keese are no exception.

Link will need to collect different Keese Wings for several Armor Sets in Breath of the Wild. There are regular Keese, Ice Keese, Fire Keese, and Electric Keese. While some may find it taxing in finding them, Keese are weak enemies with 1HP. Thus, it won't take much effort to knock them out of the sky.

Where to Find Keese

Every type of Keese can be found at night or hanging from the ceilings in caves. The brown/normal Keese are more common in the Central Province and Great Plateau of Hyrule. Other types are confined to specific regions. The best thing to do is wait until night and start walking around the fields. Around the Central Tower, players may stumble upon a group of Keese. This is known as a Keese Swarm, and they're great when Link needs a Keese Wing or two.

Despite their 1HP, Keese are fast and can be difficult to shoot with an arrow if players aren't ZL-targetting. Before they attack, their eyes will glow red, which indicates that Link should guard/dodge. When confronted with a Keese Swarm, the best way to deal with them is by chucking a bomb (or Bomb Arrow) their way. Once a Keese Swarm is hit and loses several Keese, it will take off.

Aside from Keese Wings, Keese may sometimes drop a Keese Eyeball. These can be sold to Kilton for Mon or used to upgrade the Soldier's Armor. Players may have noticed that although they have Keese Wings, they're not the right type for their armor. To find other types of Keese, Link will need to explore Hyrule's other regions.

The following armor sets require Keese Wings for upgrades:

  • Climbing Set (x3 for each piece)

Where to Find Fire Keese

As their name indicates, Fire Keese are Keese that are literally on fire. Never attack these guys with a wooden sword unless Link need a makeshift torch. If a weapon catches fire, it can be extinguished with the B-button.

Fire Keese are found in the Eldin Region. There are several Keese in the Southern Mine near some of the Ore Deposits. Strike them as they fly near or snipe them with arrows. Fire Keese are instantly defeated if players shoot an Ice Arrow at them. Again, given the weakness of Keese, using elemental or bomb arrows is generally considered a waste.

When a Fire Keese is defeated, it will drop a Fire Keese Wing instead of a regular Keese Wing. The following armor sets require Fire Keese Wings in their upgrades:

  • Snowquill Set (x8 for each piece)
  • Climbing Set (x5 for each piece)

Where to Find Electric Keese

Electric Keese are common in the Faron Province (south of Hyrule) and the Gerudo Wasteland. These can give Link quite a shock if he's hit by one thanks to their electric shield. The best way to take these guys out is with arrows. If players prefer to use a melee weapon, then use a wooden weapon. Using a metal weapon will shock Link and cause him to drop his sword (or shield, depending on if he's wielding the Master Sword).

Defeating Electric Keese causes them to drop an Electric Keese Wing. The following armor sets require the use of Electric Keese Wings:

  • Climbing Set (x3 for each piece)

Where to Find Ice Keese

loz botw mount lanayru

Ice Keese are found in the Hebra region and on Mount Lanayru. There are also some Ice Keese on Mount Hylia in the Great Plateau. One touch from their frozen tackle can freeze Link. If frozen, shake the control stick to break free. Alternatively, players that have a level 2 Snowquill Set can get the Unfreezable Set Bonus to protect themselves from an Ice Keese's frigid attacks. They can also wear Zant's Helmet (DLC only) to get the Unfreezable ability as well.

Using flame weapons such as a Flamespear can melt these enemies to nothing. Like the Fire Keese Wings, the Ice Keese Wings are needed for two armor sets. So Link will need to farm more than a handful if players intend on upgrading the following armor sets:

  • Desert Voe Set (x11 for each piece)
  • Climbing Set (x3 for each piece)

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is available for Nintendo Switch.
