Brotato is a 2022 top-down shooter released by developers Blobfish. Players are tasked with helping a potato survive oncoming waves of alien attackers using a barrage of weapons and tools
The game offers a choice from a variety of characters with their own strengths and weaknesses which can cater for a variety of play styles. One of the main strategies players use to help their potato to survive is to make use of the ranged weapons at their disposal. There are a variety of different ranged attack options that players can carefully consider when attempting to complete the survival challenge, but which of them can deliver the winning headshot?
10 Pistol
Players need only launch Brotato to get access to the Pistol. Despite being one of the default weapons in the game, it comes in handy as a reliable source of offense. At the cheap initial cost of only 10 materials for a tier 1 weapon, Pistols are great for the early stages of a run.
For those who remain committed to the Pistol as their run progresses, they are rewarded for their perseverance. All Pistols carry the additional perk of piercing 1 enemy and dealing 50% damage to a second, which is significant when carrying a tier 4 weapon, given the damage can reach 50 per shot.
9 Ghost Scepter
The Ghost Scepter is a well-rounded weapon that gives players a marginal amount of damage, ranging between 10 and 30, a knockback of 2, and a reasonable attack speed of under 1 second. However, it is the additional perks that make it quietly effective.
The Ghost Scepter rewards players for their ability to kill enemies with the weapon, granting them an additional point to their maximum HP every time they hit a kill threshold. For tier 1 scepters, players receive an additional HP for every 20, which improves to 1 in every 12 at tier 4. There is no requirement to claim this weapon, it is a default option from when the game is first launched.
8 Double Barrel Shotgun
Much like the Pistol, players won't need to complete any achievements to unlock the shotgun, which packs a punch and is a favored weapon for new and experienced players alike. While the damage per shot may not be as significant as many of the other weapons available, it's the shotgun's ability to hit multiple enemies at once that makes this weapon so useful.
Shotguns have the ability to pierce through 2 to 3 enemies per shot, at a cost in damage for each additional hit. Factoring in an 8-point knockback for each shot, the gun becomes particularly useful when players are backed into a corner by multiple enemies. Coupling the shotgun with some higher damage weapons can prove an effective and lethal combination by creating space and delivering a potent offensive assault.
7 Laser Gun
The final entry in this list from the default weapons available in Brotato is the Laser Gun, and with good reason. Boasting a tier 1 damage of 40 and tier 4 damage of 100, the Laser Gun is pound-for-pound one of the most potent sources of ranged offense available in the game.
While the Laser Gun has one of the slowest attack speeds in the game, it makes up for it with a 400-600% boost according to the player's ranged damage score, depending on the weapon's tier. Additionally, it pierces through the first enemy it hits, providing further damage to the next one at 25% of the original shot. Whether players are in the first wave or the 20th, the Laser Gun is a reliable source of protection.
6 Minigun
Fans of the Cyborg character will be very familiar with this weapon, as it is a default starter for this persona. The Minigun is only available as a tier 3 and tier 4 weapon and delivers the fastest attacking speed in the game. While the attack speed boost is at the expense of the weapon's potency, the Minigun's effectiveness lies in its volume of offense alone.
The Minigun has an astounding cooldown of 0.09 to 0.06 seconds, depending on the tier, and has the ability to pierce through 1 enemy and deliver 50% of its damage to a second one. With an additional knockback of 3, the Minigun will ensure that players are never waiting for a weapon to cool down.
5 Flamethrower
Another weapon that leans on its volume for its effectiveness is the Flamethrower. As the name suggests, this weapon dishes out a steady flow of weaponized flame that deals burning damage to enemies. At a staggeringly low attack speed of 0.12 to 0.09 seconds, depending on the weapon's tier, the Flamethrower is one of the fastest weapons in the game.
While the Flam, at 1 damage per shot, the weapon holds the additional perk of dealing burning damage that exceeds this. At its default, it deals 3x5 burning damage and can go as high as 10x10 for a tier 4 weapon. It is nearly limitless in how many enemies it can pierce, making it near impossible for the aliens to avoid being roasted.
4 Rocket Launcher
It is no surprise that a weapon capable of destroying heavy weapons and machinery in many first-person shooters is also capable of packing a serious punch in Brotato. The Rocket Launcher is a heavy explosive weapon capable of delivering high-damage, high-knockback strikes that help clear out crowds of enemies.
Each projectile fired from the Rocket Launcher explodes on contact and is capable of delivering a damage count as high as 80 per shot with a 100% boost based on the player's ranged damage score. While the attack speed is marginally slower than some of its ranged counterparts, with the slowest speed of 1.78 seconds, its ability to deliver a 15 point knockback makes its worth the wait.
3 Sniper Gun
Another first-person shooter weapon alum makes an appearance in Brotato and, also unsurprisingly, is an effective method of dealing with the game's alien problem. The Sniper Gun is only available from tier 3, which means that acquiring it in any facet guarantees an effective offensive punch.
Sniper Guns are able to deal damage as high as 80 points per strike with a 100% boost from ranged damage and 20-30% boost from range points, however it is the 20% chance of a critical strike that sets it apart from the rest. To make it a more appealing weapon of choice, hitting an enemy will cause additional projectiles to spawn from the target that does additional damage to enemies around it. To unlock this weapon, players need to win a run with the Hunter character.
2 Nuclear Launcher
Boasting an attack that is high-range, high-damage and high-knockback, the Nuclear Launcher takes all the benefits of the Rocket Launcher and cranks up the heat. Delivering a potent damage count of 60 at its lowest tier 3 rank, which doubles at tier 4, this launcher is an explosive and effective source of crowd control.
All projectiles fired from the Nuclear Launcher explode on impact, making it very effective when enemy volumes increase in the later waves. Each projectile has a 15 knockback count and is boosted by 100% of the player's ranged damage and elemental damage scores. In order to access this weapon, players need to complete a run using the Soldier character.
1 Obliterator
Players need to complete a run at the highest danger level in Brotato, then use the Demon character they unlock from this to win an additional run. While this sounds like a lot of work for just a weapon, the Obliterator serves as a reward for perseverance as much as it does a way to win runs.
The Obliterator is by far the most potent source of damage in the game, flexing a 250 to 350 damage count for its tier 3 and tier 4 versions respectively. To add salt to the wound of the many aliens in its wake, the tier 3 version gets a 1000% boost according to the player's ranged damage, whereas the tier 4 gets a 1500% increase. With a limitless piercing ability, this weapon will serve as congratulations on completing the most challenging aspects of Brotato.
