Buckshot Roulette will be getting a multiplayer mode at the end of October. Developed by Mike Klubnika, Buckshot Roulette takes the well-known concept of Russian Roulette and puts players into the thick of a high-stakes game of life and death.
Buckshot Roulette presents gamers with a modified version of Russian Roulette, where players use a shotgun instead of the traditional revolver. The shotgun before the player is loaded with a mixture of live and blank rounds, and from here, both the player and the AI-controlled "Dealer" must decide whether to shoot themselves or their opponent with the unknown round. One wrong move in Buckshot Roulette can result in players staring down the barrel of a loaded gun, and sending them right back to the start. Buckshot Roulette was originally released in late December 2023 on itch.io, and saw a major growth in popularity following a Steam release in April 2024 with the backing of publishers Critical Reflex. With a "Very Positive" rating on Steam with over 30,000 reviews, Buckshot Roulette achieved an avid following, and now these fans will be able to test their skills against one another.
On October 31, Buckshot Roulette is going to introduce a multiplayer mode to the game, allowing players to pit their tactical thinking against each other. The update will also bring new music, as well as round customization to allow players to grant themselves more health or specific items. The October 31 update for Buckshot Roulette will also bring new items to the table, allowing for even more mutual destruction between friends. Items add a unique element to Buckshot Roulette, granting players various abilities, such as checking the current shell in the gun before firing or harmlessly racking the gun to skip a shell. Their involvement allows players to both strategize their own plan and severely mess with their opponents, and the introduction of more items is sure to only add to the chaos.
New Features Coming to Buckshot Roulette on October 31
- Brand-new Multiplayer mode
- New music by Mike Klubnika
- Custom Matches
- New items
The update dropping on Halloween is no coincidence, given the game's dark concept, which is only exacerbated by its eerie presentation. Aesthetically, Buckshot Roulette has drawn parallels from fans to Inscryption; a deck-building horror game that, much like Buckshot Roulette, puts players at the end of a table in a grotesque strategy game. Inscryption has recently seen a surge in popularity thanks to its inclusion on Xbox Games Pass, and players who enjoyed the macabre tone of that game may find that Buckshot Roulette also lights that spark.
Avid fans can get the chance to take an early look at the multiplayer mode by joining the Critical Reflex Discord, and any newer players of Buckshot Roulette will be able to test their wits against their friends when the Multiplayer mode is released on October 31.

Two gamblers take their seats at the table. Through a coin toss, vote, or any democratic process, a player is selected as the wagerer. - The wagerer can bet between 1 to 3 drops on themselves to retain the role and increase the likelihood of eliminating the non-wagerer in the next turn. - The wagerer then bets a number of drops (1-3), and the dealer, armed with the loaded shotgun, disables the safety and points it at the non-wagering player. Two outcomes are possible:
The shotgun does not misfire over the wagered drops. In this case, the wagerer loses their title, which is transferred to the non-wagerer. The former wagerer can now only bet a higher number of drops than the previous wager (e.g., if the last wager was 2 drops, the new wagerer must bet 3 drops). If the last wager was 3 drops, the new wagerer has no choice and the shotgun is once again aimed at the former wagerer for 3 drops. Regardless of a misfire or not, the possible wagered drops are reset to 1-3.
The shotgun misfires and eliminates the non-wagerer. This also resets the potential wagered drops (e.g., if the non-wagerer died on a 2-drop bet, the wager resets to 1-3 drops).
When a non-wagerer survives a round, the wagerer must bet their last wager on themselves before passing the title to the non-wagerer.
