With Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Season 4 skipping a new map release in favor of reviving Grief, it’s looking increasingly likely that Janus Towers will serve as BO6’s finale. This would undoubtedly put extra pressure on the map to stick the landing, as it needs to provide a satisfying resolution to the conflict between the SAM AI and Edward Richtofen while setting up the continuation of the Dark Aether saga in Call of Duty 2026. With this year’s game rumored to bring back the original crew, the current characters - Weaver, Carver, Grey, and Maya - could be coming to the end of their journey. Their dead bodies from MWZ support this idea, but hopefully, Treyarch finally grants the Black Ops 6 crew a name before their role in the ongoing story comes to an end.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Zombies' Season 4 Content is 10 Years in the Making
Treyarch recently announced some eye-catching plans for Black Ops 6 Zombies in Season 4, with one mode being perfect for long-time fans of the series.
Potential Names For Black Ops 6 Zombies’ Canon Cast of Characters
Option 1: The Terminus Crew or The Dark Aether Crew
The first option available to Treyarch is to canonize the unofficial name fans have been using to quickly refer to the playable characters. Still, while naming the group after their debut map gets the job done at the moment, it would be nice to see them get a proper title that summarizes their overall purpose once their arc has ended. Alternatively, if rumors about CoD 2025 prove false and Treyarch does plan to keep these characters as the focal point of the Dark Aether universe going forward, perhaps they could be named the Dark Aether crew, similar to Scarlett, Shaw, Bruno, and Diego simply being the Chaos crew.
Option 2: The Maxis Crew
If Treyarch wanted to give the pairing of Maya, Weaver, Carver, and Grey a title, then one tied to their objective could prove to be an ideal approach. While these characters originally prioritized revenge and killing Richtofen, the plan has shifted since Shattered Veil, as they have temporarily allied with their captor to stop the SAM AI from gaining control of the Dark Aether. As such, their ultimate goal involves protecting and/or rescuing Samantha Maxis, so naming the group the Maxis crew could work. However, with Maxis herself not being one of the core members of the team, this hypothetical name could be confusing in the long run.
Option 3: A Latin Name
With the Terminus crew permanently tying the Black Ops 6 Zombies cast to their debut map, and the Maxis crew being slightly confusing to those out of the loop, the final option - a latin name - may be the best path for Treyarch to take. Longtime Zombies fans would likely approve of this strategy, as it would show the studio sticking to the tradition established by the Aether universe. In that saga, the three major crews of Ultimus (Last), Primus (First), and Victus (Defeated) were easily identifiable due to these distinct labels, each of which symbolized their character arcs once the latin terms were translated. Potential latin names for the Black Ops 6 group include:
- Fidus - This term translates to loyal, and would symbolize the group’s dedication to helping Samantha Maxis. It also fits in nicely with the Aether crew names because of it ending in “us.”
- Piamen - This term translates to things such as sacrifice and atonement, phrases that suit the group well. Sacrifice could reference the group’s seemingly dark fate from MWZ, while atonement could be a nod to Weaver seeking redemption for killing Richtofen’s wife and son.
- Vindicta - The term for revenge, this would apply assuming the group does still try to punish Richtofen after the SAM AI crisis is averted. It would also suit Maya’s arc, as players witnessed her revenge via her character-specific Citadelle Des Morts Easter egg.
No matter what path Treyarch takes, hopefully it gives this group a proper name in Janus Towers, as the faction's days may already be numbered. The labels for the old Zombies groups made discussion easier among the community and made each crew feel more meaningful to the wider story, and getting a proper title for the existing group can ensure that they too feel like a permanent fixture of the CoD Zombies universe.

Forced to go rogue. Hunted from within. This is Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.
Developed by Treyarch and Raven, Black Ops 6 is a spy action thriller set in the early 90s, a period of transition and upheaval in global politics, characterized by the end of the Cold War and the rise of the United States as a single superpower. With a mind-bending narrative, and unbound by the rules of engagement, this is signature Black Ops.
The Black Ops 6 Campaign provides dynamic moment-to-moment gameplay that includes a variety of play spaces with blockbuster set pieces and action-packed moments, high-stakes heists, and cloak-and-dagger spy activity.
In a best-in-class Multiplayer experience, players will test their skills across 16 new maps at launch, including 12 core 6v6 maps and 4 Strike maps that can be played 2v2 or 6v6.
Black Ops 6 also marks the epic return of Round-Based Zombies, the fan-favorite mode where players will take down hordes of the undead in two brand-new maps at launch. Post-launch, players can look forward to even more exciting maps and groundbreaking experiences dropping into both Multiplayer and Zombies.
