More and more information regarding 2025's Call of Duty release is expected to be revealed in the near future, with the popular franchise's restless annual release schedule already giving way to a lot of rumors and leaks for this year's project. Despite next to no official information currently existing regarding the title, a solid idea can already be gained of what can be expected from it, with 2025 supposedly bringing another entry to the popular Black Ops sub-franchise.

While the alleged premise and setting of this year's Call of Duty release have been known for some time, more recent rumors and leaks have aimed to shine a light on the core mechanics that the game will feature. The movement mechanics of any CoD release are a point of great interest prior to launch, with Black Ops 6 offering its own drastic changes to the IP's movement system, and leaks suggest that this year's CoD will feature its own ambitious changes in line with its reported setting.

2025's Call of Duty Release Will Supposedly Offer a Blend of Movement From Black Ops 2 and 3

It appears all but confirmed that this year's CoD entry will be another Black Ops title, with a huge number of rumors and leaks pointing towards the title being a direct sequel to 2012's Black Ops 2. While some fans are concerned that two consecutive Black Ops releases could cause some burnout, the semi-futuristic setting that a Black Ops 2 sequel would warrant should be a good way to give a distinct identity to each title.

The Black Ops franchise found its roots in gritty 1960s portrayals of the Vietnam War, but the series has expanded significantly over the years to feature settings as futuristic as the 2060s. This has given Black Ops a wide range of movement systems over time, ranging from traditional boots-on-the-ground movement to jetpack usage and wallrunning mechanics. The 90s setting of the recent Black Ops 6 found a way to distinguish itself with the directional omnimovement system, and recent leaks point towards 2025's CoD going a step further for its own movement mechanics.

According to these recent leaks, 2025's Call of Duty release will reportedly feature its own wallrunning mechanics akin to 2015's Black Ops 3, but will not go as far as emulating the jetpacks that the title also featured. This seems like a logical way to portray the setting that 2025's CoD will supposedly have in between Black Ops 2 and 3, going slightly more futuristic than BO2 without making the game's technology on par with the likes of Black Ops 3 or 4.

Rumors currently suggest that 2025's CoD will be set in 2035, ten years after the events of Black Ops 2.

Wallrunning Could Bring Lots of Change to a Black Ops 2 Sequel

While wallrunning will not be as complex or game-changing as it was in Black Ops 3 when combined with jetpack movement, the presence of the mechanic in 2025's CoD should still open up a world of opportunities in terms of gameplay avenues and map design. There are many rumors that 2025's entry will feature a lot of remastered Black Ops 2 maps, which has drawn its own controversy, yet the addition of wallrunning could be a great way to necessitate slight redesigns for these classic experiences to keep things fresh.

Although some players miss the jetpack era of Call of Duty, it is safe to say that this game-changing mechanic was quite divisive, making its absence in this year's CoD release a fairly safe bet. Wallrunning by itself will crucially offer some distinction to the rumored setting of 2025's CoD title, with it seeming more and more likely that players have a unique sequel to Black Ops 2 to look forward to from the franchise this year.
