Summary

  • Nuketown in Black Ops 6 is a remaster of the original, with updated graphics.
  • The iconic map won't be available at launch, but is coming to the game on November 1.
  • There's also the new Nuketown-inspired Warzone map, Area 99, to look forward to, as well as the Warhead Gunfight map.

It's been confirmed that the version of Nuketown that will be featured in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will be the original from the first Black Ops game. Since the hugely popular Shipment in Call of Duty 4, many Call of Duty games have featured especially small maps that have become fan favorites. Modern Warfare 2 had Rust, and the original Black Ops game in 2010 had Nuketown.

One of the most popular Call of Duty maps of all time, Nuketown has returned multiple times since its debut in Black Ops 1. A version called Nuketown 2025 was featured in Black Ops 2, with a Zombies mode variant eventually added as well. Black Ops 3 showcased a futuristic twist on Nuketown, while Black Ops 4 and Black Ops Cold War also had their own take on the iconic map. Now, 14 years later, the original Nuketown is finally making a comeback.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Reveals Big Change to Fan Favorite Map

Ahead of the game's launch on October 25, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 reveals a major change to a fan-favorite map from the beta earlier this year.

It's been confirmed that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's Nuketown map will be a remastered version of the original. Essentially, fans can expect its layout to mirror the classic Nuketown map, but with vastly improved graphics to meet modern standards. Fans of the original Black Ops will no doubt be excited to see the original Nuketown make a comeback, though they won't be able to play it at launch.

Black Ops 6 is Bringing Back the Original Nuketown

Black Ops 6 will have Nuketown, but the map isn't coming to the game until November 1. A reason for this delay has not been revealed, but it may be inspired by a desire to have fans give the new maps in Black Ops 6 a proper chance. After all, whenever maps like Shipment, Rust, or Nuketown are included in a Call of Duty game, fans demand for them to have 24/7 playlists. By keeping Nuketown out of the launch playlists, Activision can side-step that potential backlash.

But while Black Ops 6 won't have Nuketown at launch, it will have maps inspired by it. Warzone is getting a map called Area 99, set near the Nuketown testing site, while Black Ops 6 itself will feature Warhead, a 2v2 Gunfight map that appears to take place in a destroyed version of Nuketown.

Forced to go rogue. Hunted from within. This is Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

Developed by Treyarch and Raven, Black Ops 6 is a spy action thriller set in the early 90s, a period of transition and upheaval in global politics, characterized by the end of the Cold War and the rise of the United States as a single superpower. With a mind-bending narrative, and unbound by the rules of engagement, this is signature Black Ops.

The Black Ops 6 Campaign provides dynamic moment-to-moment gameplay that includes a variety of play spaces with blockbuster set pieces and action-packed moments, high-stakes heists, and cloak-and-dagger spy activity.

In a best-in-class Multiplayer experience, players will test their skills across 16 new maps at launch, including 12 core 6v6 maps and 4 Strike maps that can be played 2v2 or 6v6.

Black Ops 6 also marks the epic return of Round-Based Zombies, the fan-favorite mode where players will take down hordes of the undead in two brand-new maps at launch. Post-launch, players can look forward to even more exciting maps and groundbreaking experiences dropping into both Multiplayer and Zombies.
