Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's Lack of a Platinum Trophy Highlights the Issues of a Cental Hub
There are a total of 44 trophies/achievements that players can work towards to truly experience everything Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has to offer. While many CoD trophy lists usually have a large focus on campaign-related feats, Black Ops 6 offers an unusually diverse blend of trophies spread between its campaign, core multiplayer, and Zombies.
These trophies offer some real challenges across all of these experiences, such as completing the campaign on Veteran difficulty, entering Prestige Mode through the game's multiplayer, and also the completion of Easter eggs for Zombies. These challenges are available to unlock across all platforms, but many perfectionist PlayStation players are deeply unhappy at the news that Black Ops 6 features no platinum trophy.
PlayStation's platinum trophies are unlocked when all other trophy requirements are completed for a given title, being the ultimate badge of honor for fans who have perfected their favorite games. Players can then track how many platinum trophies they have unlocked overall, giving an edge to PlayStation trophy/achievement hunting over other platforms. Like the vast majority of AAA titles, CoD releases historically featured platinum trophies of their own, although this is something that has changed a lot in recent years.
Call of Duty's Attempts to Streamline Have Only Created Issues For PS5 Users
The recent Modern Warfare 3 also missed out on a platinum trophy for PS5 users, with this coming as a result of the franchise's efforts to keep its annual releases connected through a single hub. With new CoD titles now simply being accessed through the Call of Duty launcher, new releases are technically considered as DLC, which does not meet the requirements for a platinum trophy. While platinum trophies are still available on the PS4 versions of modern CoD titles, this still leaves PS5 players with the choice between having no access to a platinum trophy or the lesser performance of last-gen titles.
A longstanding criticism of the new Call of Duty hub is how it takes away variety from the franchise's annual releases, taking away a lot of the unique charm that individual projects of the past were able to express. The lack of modern platinum trophies for Call of Duty titles only compounds this, with an integral part of trophy hunting in CoD seeming like a thing of the past for PlayStation users, as things stand.
