The post-launch life of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is set to receive another boost on May 29 thanks to the anticipated launch of the game's fourth season, and Treyarch has already given fans a solid overview of the content it will introduce. Like any modern Call of Duty season, BO6's Season 4 will be split between immediately-available content, mid-season Reloaded content, and more additions sprinkled throughout the season's runtime, which is expected to last until around late July.
This Season 4 roadmap for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 paints a clear picture of what can be expected for Warzone, core multiplayer, and Zombies, and fans of Treyarch's iconic undead mode are in store for some big additions, despite Season 4 not adding a new Zombies map to the game. Away from the exciting content that Season 4 is set to introduce, Black Ops 6's post-launch life is only expected to last for a couple more seasons, meaning Season 5 will likely feature the last major Zombies map in anticipation of Treyarch's rumored involvement in 2025's Call of Duty release.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Zombies' Grief Mode Has One Obvious Advantage Over the Original
Fans are understandably excited for Grief's return in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Zombies, and this return has one big positive over the original.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's Future Seasons Already Have a Clear Path For Zombies Content
A lot of pressure was placed on Black Ops 6's Zombies map pool prior to the game's release, and Treyarch has made a concerted effort to move away from the more modern open-world formula of Outbreak and to move toward the classic round-based experiences of Zombies' past. Since the game's launch, and throughout its post-release seasons, the developer has done a good job at introducing fresh and engaging round-based experiences, with five maps currently being available.
Across Liberty Falls, Terminus, Citadelle des Morts, The Tomb, and Shattered Veil, fans have a wide range of Zombies content to choose from, yet there is still room for more major Zombies additions. While Season 4 of Black Ops 6 will not introduce a new Zombies map, the update has drawn a lot of attention due to its plans to bring the iconic Grief game mode from Black Ops 2 to the game.
The upcoming release of Grief for Black Ops 6 will mark the introduction of several Grief Arena maps. These maps will be made out of claustrophobic segments of all the game's pre-existing Zombies maps, breathing new life into Black Ops 6's entire Zombies map catalog. This buys Treyarch some time to prepare another major map for Black Ops 6, which is most likely to release in Season 5, and most theories point towards this map being a portrayal of Janus Towers, as suggested in Shattered Veil's outro cinematic.
Black Ops 6's Grief mode will feature 11 Grief Arena maps at launch, and this number is likely to rise with the release of the game's next major map.
Treyarch's Near-Future May Be too Busy For Another Black Ops 6 Zombies Map Beyond Janus Towers
Most modern Call of Duty games only receive six in-game seasons, meaning Treyarch would only have one season left with Black Ops 6 Zombies following the likely introduction of its next major map in Season 5. It already seems unlikely that the studio would release new maps in back-to-back seasons, and Treyarch's heavily-rumored involvement in 2025's CoD entry makes the possibility of a Season 6 Zombies map even more unrealistic.
For some time now, theories have suggested that 2025's CoD entry will be a direct sequel to Black Ops 2, and while the game was reportedly without a major developer for quite some time, it is rumored that Treyarch has taken the lead on the project. This could potentially impact the kind of content that Treyarch could realistically release for Zombies beyond its next major map, and Season 6 will probably have to look at other content to bid Black Ops 6's post-launch life farewell. This could come in the form of an Outbreak-like addition to Black Ops 6 or a major Easter egg across pre-existing maps, as it seems unlikely that a seventh major map is in the cards for the title.
