Warning: Spoilers for Citadelle des Morts

Players who thought they had escaped the clutches of "last-gen Richtofen" are in for a surprise, as Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's newest Zombies map provides a brand-new cutscene for fans to obsess over. The new cutscene is found within Citadelle des Morts, the latest Zombies map to release for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, a location that takes the Dark Aether storyline in exciting new directions. However, last-gen versions of the map are struggling, prompting discussion and criticism from Black Ops 6 players and longtime Zombies fans.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 hit store shelves at the end of October and has already proved to be a big success, both in terms of its multiplayer and its main story. Fans praised Black Ops 6's campaign for its intricate plot and daring missions and have continued to spend countless hours in the game's multiplayer mode as new maps continue to appear. Black Ops 6's Zombies mode, meanwhile, continues to be one of the most interesting aspects of the game due to the sheer level of detail found within each map. However, the same cannot be said for the last-gen version of Black Ops 6, with fans poking fun at the latest story cutscene online.

Reddit user ItzJohnnyChap recently shared a clip of the final cutscene for the Easter egg on Black Ops 6's Citadelle des Morts. While the cutscene has already been seen by millions of players, this version is unique because it's being played on last-gen consoles (Xbox One and PlayStation 4). While lower detail and resolutions are expected, the player claims the cutscene may even "rival" Black Ops 3's now-infamous last-gen Richthofen.

Players Discover Last-Gen Black Ops 6 Zombies Cutscene

Last-gen Richtofen became a meme within the Call of Duty: Zombies community following the completion of Black Ops 3's Shadows of Evil Easter egg. The last-generation horrors continued in Der Eisendrache, which featured the full Primus cast in glorious low-resolution. Last-gen Richtofen became a joke not only within the community but also for Treyarch itself, with the studio placing a reference to the character in Black Ops 4's Classified map. Fans also correctly suspected the last-gen shenanigans would continue in Black Ops 6.

While the last-gen version of Black Ops 6's Citadelle des Morts isn't totally terrible, there is certainly a lack of detail and quality, with textures popping in and out and character models lacking a lot of detail and shaders compared to the current-gen version of the game. With a new yearly Call of Duty release and with new consoles likely around the corner, the chances of Xbox One and PlayStation 4 support being dropped increase substantially. It's clear that Xbox Series X, S, PlayStation 5, and PC are the intended ways to experience Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. For now, however, fans can enjoy Citadelle des Morts in all of its last-gen glory.
