Fans recently got a comprehensive overview of what to expect from Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's Season 4, and the upcoming update has a huge amount of fresh content in store for players. The developers have planned some big changes that are set to come to BO6's core multiplayer as well as Warzone thanks to Season 4, although the upcoming plans for Zombies are still full of some game-changing additions too.
Some fans may be disappointed at the fact that Season 4 of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will not introduce a major new map for Zombies, though the introduction of a familiar game mode has already been the cause of a lot of excitement. Alongside a wide range of other content, Season 4 of Black Ops 6 will finally see the introduction of the iconic Grief mode to the title's Zombies, finally delivering on an experience that fans have wanted to see again since its first introduction over a decade ago in 2012's Black Ops 2.
One Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Season 4 Gun Could Be a Balancing Nightmare
Now that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's next season is on the way, one returning gun could prove to be a controversial addition.
Grief Might Once Again Become a Staple of Zombies Thanks to Black Ops 6
Season 4 of Black Ops 6 is packed full of Zombies additions, including new Gobblegums, Dark Ops challenges, the Shatter Blast ammo mod, and the Grim Reaper support. As well as this, players can expect some limited-time modes alongside an exciting event, though it is hard to overlook the anticipation that surrounds the re-introduction of Grief to the franchise.
The three new Gobblegums heading to Black Ops 6 in Season 4 are Explosive Flourish, Flavor Hex, and Rainburps, which offer reload-tied explosions, random Ultra Gobblegum activations, and rainbow-belching zombies, respectively.
Grief will remain as a permanent new mode for Black Ops 6 Zombies from the outset of Season 4's launch on May 29, adding a unique PvP survival spin to the classic CoD Zombies experience. As long-time Zombies fans will remember, Grief sees two teams of four players survive in smaller-scaled versions of a given game's maps, with Grief being available on arena-like versions of each of Black Ops 6's current Zombies maps.
The goal of Grief is to outlive the opposing team. Players can hinder their opposition in a variety of creative ways, or both teams can help each other in the spirit of fair play. As the name suggests, making things difficult for an opposing team is the highlight of a Grief match, and Black Ops 6 takes this to new heights with the introduction of Capture Zones. The first team to successfully capture different marked zones around a map will bestow a debuff on the enemy team, putting a fresh spin on the usual Grief formula to make the mode as chaotic and competitive as ever.
Treyarch Needs to Match the Expectations of Grief's Return in Black Ops 6
Grief stands as an iconic part of Call of Duty's Zombies history, being a staple of Black Ops 2's fan-favorite Zombies offerings. Despite the positive reception that the mode garnered in Black Ops 2, it has not been seen since, with Black Ops 4 infamously aiming to feature its own version of Grief before the idea was ultimately scrapped. Over a decade has passed with players demanding an updated version of the mode, so it is clear to see why so much anticipation already surrounds Black Ops 6's upcoming Grief portrayal.
Of course, these expectations come with a high level of pressure for Treyarch to get things right with Grief. The mode most likely needs to be modernized without compromising the appeal of what made its original state so popular. The introduction of Grief to Black Ops 6 can hopefully breathe a lot of life into the game's pre-existing catalog of maps, while setting up the future of Call of Duty Zombies to once again involve such a high-octane and memorable multiplayer mode as standard.
