Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 has great news for fans of the iconic Black Ops 2, as developer Treyarch Studios confirms that the upcoming shooter will feature remastered maps from the 2012 classic that haven't been done before. While Call of Duty has become well-known for remastering the same few maps year after year, it looks like Black Ops 7 is finally going to be changing things up and bringing back some fan favorite maps that haven't been seen for over a decade.

This is great news for die-hard Call of Duty fans who have been around since the days of the first few Black Ops games, but given that Black Ops 7 is a direct sequel to Black Ops 2, this likely won't come as much of a surprise. The next installment in the series was first revealed back in June, with a full worldwide reveal taking place at Gamescom Opening Night Live last month. Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is set ten years after the events of Black Ops 2 and will bring back some of the game's most iconic characters, such as Raul Menendez and David Mason, for a brand-new, mind-bending campaign.

Black Ops 7 Will Have New Black Ops 2 Remastered Maps

Call of Duty fans have yet to go hands-on with Black Ops 7, but its reveal hasn't gone down too well with fans. Although a sequel to Black Ops 2 is something fans have been eager to see for years now, the game's reveal has been bombarded with comments from players saying they're going to pre-order Battlefield 6 instead. But now Treyarch has shared some new information that may make fans think twice about that decision. In a new post on Twitter, Treyarch's Design Director Matt Scronce did a short Q&A for Black Ops 7, during which a fan asked, "Can we get some Black Ops 2 remasters that we haven't seen before?" Scronce kept his reply short and sweet, saying, "Uh, yeah, you can."

Over the years, there have been tons of Black Ops 2 map remasters. In Black Ops Cold War, for example, Slums, Standoff, Hijacked, Raid, and more made their return during the shooter's life cycle. However, there are still plenty of maps that have never actually left Black Ops 2, including Yemen, Aftermath, Cargo, Overflow, Plaza, and so many more. Although not all of these maps were as beloved as the likes of Standoff or Raid, it's still going to be great to see some of them return in Black Ops 7's seasonal updates.

Those eager to check out the next Black Ops game will be pleased to know that the open beta for Black Ops 7 is just a few short weeks away. While it's unlikely that the beta will include any Black Ops 2 remasters, it will give players the chance to check out the game's big new movement system, weapons, maps, and more. For those who have already pre-ordered Black Ops 7, early access to the open beta will begin on October 2. For everybody else, the beta will begin on October 5.
