The big announcement to cap off the latest Xbox Games Showcase event was the reveal that Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is coming this year and will mark the return of David Mason. The Call of Duty franchise is consistently a top-seller, and considering the dizzying success of the Black Ops brand in particular, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 was always an inevitability.

Rumors have been swirling for quite some time about Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and what the new game will bring to the table. Previous rumors have pointed to the new game being a direct sequel to Black Op 2, and now those claims have been confirmed. The Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 reveal trailer at the Xbox Games Showcase has pulled the curtain back on exactly what fans can expect from the game when it launches later this year.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s Hudson Reference Should Be The Tip of the Iceberg

The latest story developments for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 make reference to the iconic Jason Hudson, and this should only be the beginning.

Developed as a collaboration between Treyarch and Raven Software, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is set in the year 2035 and sees the return of David Mason as the main character after the events of Black Ops 2. Black Ops 7 will feature a co-op campaign along with the return of the franchise's signature multiplayer experience and round-based Zombies. A more-detailed reveal of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will take place this summer, but an exact date for that event hasn't been announced just yet. Black Ops 7 is currently without a release date, but it's scheduled to launch for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. Of course, it will also be a day one Xbox Game Pass game.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Trailer

What's odd is that Black Ops 7 has not been confirmed for the Nintendo Switch 2. Microsoft previously agreed to a 10-year deal to bring Call of Duty games to Nintendo platforms, and one would have expected that to start with Black Ops 7, especially since the new game is releasing on last-generation hardware anyway. Maybe Black Ops 7 is coming to the Switch 2 and that announcement is being saved for later, but that remains to be seen.

In the meantime, there are still many Black Ops 6 updates on the way between now and when the new game launches this fall. Fans can also expect new updates for Warzone in the interim as well. Perhaps teases for Black Ops 7 will pop up in those games as we've seen in previous years. After all, the Black Ops 7 trailer seems to end with a sneak peek at a new Warzone map. Call of Duty fans will want to keep an eye out for sure.
