This article contains spoilers for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.
With just days left to go until the worldwide reveal of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 at Gamescom Opening Night Live, Activision has added a short teaser video featuring the shooter's expected villain, Raul Menendez, to Call of Duty: Warzone. As Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will act as a direct sequel to 2012's Black Ops 2, some iconic characters will be making their return, even ones who fans believed to be deceased.
Whether you're an avid gamer, merely dabble from time to time, or have never played a game in your life, nearly every household has heard of Call of Duty. The release of Black Ops 7 will mark the series's twenty-second instalment and will act as a direct continuation of Black Ops 2. While titles such as Black Ops 3 and 4 are set after Black Ops 2, the next Call of Duty game will take place 10 years after the events of the 2012 shooter and will see characters such as David Mason and Raul Menendez make a triumphant return.
Battlefield 6 and Call of Duty Have One Major Flaw in Common
Battlefield 6 soars past Call of Duty in its first open beta weekend, but fans quickly point out a major flaw that the two series have in common.
Raul Menendez Returns in New Black Ops 7 Teaser
The teaser trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 that was shown earlier this year during the Xbox Games Showcase confirmed that Black Ops 2 villain Raul Menendez was seemingly back from the dead, which raised a ton of eyebrows among the community. Now, with the game's full reveal looming, Activision has added a new teaser to Call of Duty: Warzone featuring the character. The easter egg can be seen at the TV Station on Verdansk, where Menendez addresses the public, saying, "My name is Raul Menendez. As you can see, I am alive and well. 2025 was just the beginning. A necessary first step. Once again, you shall know fear."
It's unclear how Black Ops 7 is going to continue the story of Black Ops 2, mainly because the latter has multiple different endings that can be achieved by the player. However, things get confusing as it has often been considered that the ending where Mason kills Menendez is canon to the series. So how Treyarch aims to address the villain's resurrection remains a mystery.
Thankfully, more details surrounding Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will be revealed on August 19, as Activision has confirmed that the shooter will be a part of Gamescom Opening Night Live. It's unclear what the focus of the reveal will be, but fans are hoping to see their first official look at all three modes, which include the game's campaign, multiplayer, and zombies. There will also be some big changes inbound for Call of Duty: Warzone when Black Ops 7 is released, but it's likely that these changes are revealed during this year's COD Next event.
