Activision has announced the removal of a Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 pre-order bonus due to "changes in content approach" between 2024's entry in the series and the upcoming release. While fans who pre-order Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 before its launch on November 14 will still be able to use the operator skins in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone, they will no longer be equipable in this year's installment, leaving many fans rather disappointed.
Due to the immense amount of backlash received from players, Call of Duty has been making some big changes in preparation for the launch of Black Ops 7 next month. Major adjustments to skill-based matchmaking and overall gameplay have been revealed in recent weeks, but it is the cancellation of Carry Forward and the U-turn on unrealistic cosmetic items that have made waves across the community. In an effort to return the series to its roots, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will be ditching the brand collaborations and unrealistic skins; however, this has resulted in some cosmetics being altered or, in the most recent instance, outright removed.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7's Campaign Already Has a Strong Connection to Black Ops 6
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is set 40 years after the events of Black Ops 6's campaign, but there's already one strong connection between the two games.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Removes Reznov Pre-Order Bonus
After announcing the cancellation of Carry Forward for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 earlier this year, Activision now appears to be taking things one step further to ensure that fans are happy with the type of content coming to the shooter. In a recent update to the game's FAQ page, the studio revealed that the Reznov Challenge Pack, which includes three operator skins, will no longer be usable in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. Activision says this is due to "changes in content approach" between Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 7. The good news, however, is that those who do pre-order before November 14 will still be able to use the Reznov skins in Warzone and Black Ops 6.
This is just the latest in a long line of changes made by Activision in the build-up to Black Ops 7. In September, the publisher announced that significant adjustments had been made to Black Ops 7's Vault Edition skins to "better align with community feedback." Although Activision was willing to rework these skins in time for launch, it appears to have taken a completely different approach with the game's pre-order bonuses, opting to remove them from the game entirely. As expected, this hasn't gone down too well with fans, as some say it makes "absolutely no sense."
It may have angered some fans who were looking forward to using the Reznov skins in Black Ops 7, but this does appear to be part of Activision's continued efforts to appease the overall community. Outside of cosmetic adjustments, Treyarch and Activision shocked fans shortly after the game's beta test when they announced that Black Ops 7 would ditch skill-based matchmaking in favor of a more traditional system, not seen in the last six years.
