Easily one of the bigger mysteries in the gaming industry right now is that of Call of Duty 2020. While there have been leaks about the next Call of Duty, the public, officially, has no idea who's making the game, what it's about, or even the title. While fans should be getting the official reveal sometime this month (as Activision usually announces its Call of Duty games in May), a leaker on Twitter has revealed that the title of this year's game will be Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.
The news comes the way of Twitter user Okami13_, who's been a pretty notable leaker within the Call of Duty community for a while now. Most recently, he leaked the news that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered would be released on March 31, 2020, a couple of days before the news was revealed to the rest of the world.
Despite not knowing anything official about the game, the leaked title does line up with the other leaks saying the game will take place during the Vietnam War and that it would somehow connect with the Black Ops series. According to the leaks, characters from previous Black Ops games, like Frank Woods and Alex Mason, would be appearing in the game, but that they wouldn't be playable and that they would be portrayed by different actors.
Unfortunately, Okami doesn't really spill the beans on anything else about the game, so the public really doesn't know if the other rumors about Call of Duty 2020 are true or not. It is worth noting that, technically, this is just a rumor and speculation, so it is important to take it with a grain of salt. Still, given this user's reputation, it would be genuinely shocking if this turned out to not be at least partially true.
It's also important to point out that Okami, generally, only leaks things when Activision is only a few days away from the announcement. While this is complete speculation, it wouldn't be surprising to see the game get teased sometime this week or next week, especially given yesterday was the 10th anniversary of Black Ops 1's reveal date.
The title, however, is a bit long. A much more fitting title would have been Call of Duty: Cold War or the rumored Call of Duty: Classified. Both are short, to the point, and allow for easy revisions in future titles. It would be a bit jarring to see Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War 2 come to stores in the next few years.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is rumored to be releasing on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC sometime later this year.
