Actor Barry Sloane, who provided the voice and motion capture for Captain Price in the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare reboot trilogy, commented on Christopher Judge's remarks on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and its campaign. This was in direct response to the God of War actor's comments on the Call of Duty title made at The Game Awards 2023.
Actor Christopher Judge, best known for playing Kratos in the God of War games set in the Norse era, commented on the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 campaign. During his speech at the 2023 Game Awards, the actor took the time to poke fun at the campaign's notoriously short length, saying, "My speech was actually longer than this year’s Call of Duty campaign." He added that Activision wouldn't be a company he'd work for. It was a moment that happened early in the award show, and at least one actor from the Call of Duty series seemed to take issue with Judge's comments.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3's Campaign Doesn't Hold a Candle to the 2011 Original
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is not terrible, but its campaign is now considered one of the worst in the franchise, not coming close to 2011's MW3.
The morning after The Game Awards 2023, Barry Sloane took to Twitter to share his opinion on Christopher Judge. In a tweet, Sloane said, "That Christopher Judge guy writes all his own material, I hear." The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 actor then adds, "Talented," at the end, supplemented with the widened eyes and clown face emojis.
Many commenters disagreed with Sloane's remarks. Some pointed to the underwhelming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 campaign, which is known to be extremely short, with only a few hours of story content. While this depends on the difficulty players choose to play, the Modern Warfare 3 single-player campaign was poorly-received by fans regardless. Even so, many have made the argument that poking fun at the game was not appropriate for an event like The Game Awards.
Ajinkya Limaye, a former Infinity Ward developer who eventually went on to work with Bungie as a Senior Systems Designer, took to Twitter to voice their opinion on the matter. In a now-deleted tweet, Limaye responded to Judge's views by saying, "the metrics that CoD absolutely destroys all of the God of war games (probably combined tbh) in is also equally laughable (if not more)."
Regardless of which side of the debate one falls on, Modern Warfare 3's campaign was heavily criticized upon release, and the game received many low review scores as a result. Even though Modern Warfare 3's multiplayer has been met with mostly positive reactions, the campaign left a negative impression that continues to be brought up after its release. Still, there are many who think The Game Awards 2023 was not the right place for Judge's comment.
