Since its launch in 2020, Call of Duty: Warzone has had its fair share of in-game events where players dropping into the action can earn a wealth of rewards on offer. The Haunting returns as part of the Season 6 update alongside Purgatory Island, a fresh take on the popular Rebirth Island map.
The final season of the Urzikstan era contains plenty of events including The Walking Dead: Road to Terminus and Trick 'r Treat: Candy Hunt giving fans plenty of chances to unlock all kinds of limited-edition items. Here, find out when the Warzone Purgatory Island event takes place and the expected list of rewards on offer.
CoD MW3 & Warzone: How to Unlock Art the Clown
Art the Clown is coming to Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone; here's how players can unlock him.
Warzone Purgatory Island Event Start Date
The Warzone Purgatory Island event begins on September 25. The event runs until October 16 giving players three weeks to earn all of the rewards up for grabs.
The Purgatory Island event is the last one arriving to Warzone before Black Ops 6 integrates into the game as part of its first post-launch season. Purgatory Island's unique aesthetic creates an additional layer of spookiness to Rebirth Island.
What Is Purgatory Island?
Purgatory Island ties into the Purgatory limited-time mode that's also arriving as part of Warzone's Season 6 update. Instead of players dropping onto the standard version of Rebirth Island, players will land on Hellscape featuring a fresh coat of paint; and instead of teams battling to become the last one standing, they have to earn a specific victory condition by scoring kills and commending other players in the lobby.
The Hellscape map also contains Shipment which flies as its own separate island above the map during Purgatory matches. Players can use portals, parachutes, and helicopters to gain access to the island and the items it contains.
Warzone Purgatory Island Event Rewards
The Warzone Purgatory Island event rewards haven't arrived yet but there's a strong possibility of the event following the same formula as other events taking place throughout Season 6.
The Call of Duty blog states players will have to 'complete event challenges' to earn the rewards on offer. In most cases, challenges involve scoring eliminations with a particular weapon category or a certain number of contracts. The Purgatory mode contains plenty of new mechanics for players to master so there's a chance the challenges involve using those features to complete the tasks. Here are all of the items and rewards expected to arrive:
- Double XP tokens
- Battle Pass tokens
- Calling cards
- Emblems
- Weapon charms
- Weapon blueprints
- Weapon camouflages
- Sprays
- Emotes
The Purgatory Island event in Call of Duty: Warzone is one of the last times players can earn rewards before the focus turns to the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and the arrival of the Area 99 map expected to replace Rebirth Island.
