Summary

  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is releasing the Dune Sardaukar operator pack on November 1, showcasing the Dune universe.
  • The Dune bundle will likely include a character skin and two weapon blueprints, and it's speculated the launch was made to align with the original release date of Dune: Part Two.
  • The Dune Sardaukar bundle will transfer over to the upcoming game, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, and it may be the last collaboration for a while.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has confirmed what's likely to be one last crossover bundle, the Dune Sardaukar operator pack, coming on November 1. Now in its sixth and final season, Modern Warfare 2 is beginning to wind down before its direct sequel Modern Warfare 3 takes over on November 10.

Part of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's Season 6 is its Halloween-themed event called The Haunting, which brought in spooky collabs with other horror-centric franchises. Characters like Ash Williams from Evil Dead, Alucard from Hellsing, Lilith and Inarius from Diablo, and more became playable operators in Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone throughout October. All this came alongside Halloween versions of Vondel, Al Mazrah, El Asilo, and Embassy, as well as controversial jumpscares during matches and in the Spawn- themed battle pass.

As Season 6 and The Haunting was being revealed back in late September, a Dune- themed operator pack was leaked leading to speculation among the community about an imminent crossover with the sci-fi film franchise. Now, as Season 6 winds down, Modern Warfare 2 has officially confirmed the Dune Sardaukar operator bundle on Twitter, stating that it's coming on November 1. The Sardaukar are an antagonistic faction of fearsome warriors within the Dune universe.

While the contents of the Dune bundle are still unknown, it's a safe bet that the headlining items will be the character skin and two weapon blueprints. One of these weapon blueprints is visible in the post, which appears to be using Modern Warfare 2's Ordnance weapon platform and is equipped with a drum magazine. Since Dune isn't particularly known as a horror franchise like the other Season 6 collabs, it's more than likely that this operator pack was lined up to release alongside Dune: Part Two, which was originally stamped with an October 20 release date. After Dune: Part Two's recent delay to March 2024, it seems Call of Duty isn't keen on holding onto the bundle for an extra five months as a Modern Warfare 3 drop.

Will the Dune Sardaukar Bundle Transfer Over to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3?

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is just around the corner and as with any other weapon blueprint, operator, and cosmetic, the Dune Sardaukar bundle will transfer over from Modern Warfare 2 into the new game on November 10. It's likely that this Dune bundle will be the last Call of Duty collaboration for a while, as crossovers for new games usually don't begin until around Spring of the next year. Until then, fans eagerly awaiting Dune: Part Two to hit theaters in March will get to enjoy its Call of Duty bundle five months early.
