This wouldn't be the first time the franchise has been accused of something like this, as Call of Duty: Warzone players thought bots were added to that game.

The alleged addition of bots is just the latest in a long string of controversies surrounding Modern Warfare 3. The game initially disappointed fans thanks to a brief campaign that lasts only five hours on average. Not to mention, Call of Duty's annual release cycle is consistently a topic of debate among fans and general gamers. Still, this hasn't stopped the game from selling a ton of copies. Even stats prove Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has been successful in terms of hours played.

Reports of AI bots being added to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3' s online multiplayer have been flooding the game's subreddit. These accusations led to YouTuber Blame Truth - The CODfather making a video showcasing all the weird activity he's seen in the game. While other online games like Fortnite implement bots in online matches, this isn't something either Sledgehammer Games or Activision has divulged to its fans concerning Modern Warfare 3.

As shown in the video, the speculation surrounding the AI bots seems to stem from strange behavior from various players within the game. The theory is that either Sledgehammer or Activision is quietly implementing AI bots in online matches to boost player's egos and make them want to play more. Unintentionally, however, the alleged bots are glitching and acting unnaturally in online matches.

While plenty of gamers claim AI bots are being used in online matches, that doesn't necessarily make it true. Odd behavior in online matches could be the result of countless different factors, from new players to lagging internet connection. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is selling well despite poor reviews, meaning many gamers have picked up the latest entry in the CoD franchise. Because of this, it's reasonable to assume that at least some of these millions of players are relatively new to the franchise and unwittingly acting in a manner that veteran players perceive to be bot-like.

One area in which Activision most certainly is employing AI technology is chat moderation. Call of Duty recently added AI voice chat moderation as part of an ongoing effort to identify toxic speech in real-time. The technology fully launched alongside the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.
