A Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 player survived a difficult battle thanks to an incredible stroke of luck involving one of the game's many finishing moves. Though finishing moves and executions are a well-known aspect of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 matches, their use carries its own set of risks.
Live-service competitive games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 often sell cosmetic items like skins and accessories, to make a bit of money off of players' desire to appear unique, express themselves, or signal their love of a crossover franchise, such as the Mobile Suit Gundam anime. Finishing moves are another facet of the game's monetization, allowing players to, under certain circumstances, defeat their enemies in elaborate and amusing ways with animated executions.
Call of Duty Datamine Hints at Next Big Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone Crossover
According to new information uncovered by data miners, Call of Duty: Warzone and Modern Warfare 3 are about to get a major crossover.
Unfortunately for one player, those finishing moves aren't always foolproof. Reddit user Quantum-Buckaroo recorded a particularly amusing incident during their match, wherein an attempted execution resulted in the executing player taking an unexpected fall, and shared it with the community, adding another entry to the list of all-time Call of Duty execution fails.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Execution Fail Results in a Lucky Save
The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 clip shows Quantum-Buckaroo briefly pausing to go prone before an open skylight in the roof of a building, only to be interrupted by another player dressed in a white Ghost skin attempting an execution. Luckily for Quantum-Buckaroo, the finisher animation consists of the winning player casually shooting their victim as they walk past. That walking sequence took the executing player over the opening of the skylight, causing the finisher animation to interrupt, dropping them to the floor below. Quantum-Buckaroo quickly took advantage of the situation, aiming at their would-be killer and defeating them. The incident saved them from an embarrassing death, as a finishing move is one of the more embarrassing ways to be killed in Call of Duty.
Fellow players reacted with amusement at the entertaining save, pointing out Quantum-Buckaroo's luck in avoiding a death brought on by their own lack of situational awareness. The very brief pause as the finisher animation cut out and dropped the offending player also brought to mind a scene straight from a classic Looney Tunes TV show. Some even suggested that the clip be edited to add cartoon sound effects.
A few players felt empathy for Quantum-Buckaroo's attempted executioner, saying that if such an embarrassing death happened, they'd immediately leave and take a break from Call of Duty to rid themselves of the shame. Others expressed relief that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 allows for execution animations to be interrupted in this way, as cutting them off and allowing such accidental deaths is much more amusing than "locking" executions away from outside interference.
