Summary

  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 may be introducing Mortal Kombat-themed content in an upcoming update, according to a leaked image.
  • The Call of Duty franchise has a history of collaborations with various TV shows, movies, and video games, making a Mortal Kombat team-up plausible.
  • If the collaboration does happen, players can expect cosmetics like character skins, weapon blueprints, finishing moves, and more.

If a recent leak is to be believed, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 may be receiving Mortal Kombat-themed content in a future update. While all leaks should be taken with a grain of salt, the leaked image for this Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 crossover does look legitimate.

Anyone who has followed the Call of Duty franchise in recent years will be aware of just how many collaborations have occurred. Characters from television shows like The Boys have appeared within Call of Duty, as have action heroes from movies like Judge Dredd, Rambo, and John McClane. Spawn, Godzilla, and Ash from Evil Dead have also featured within the games, as have other video game characters like Lara Croft and Lilith from Diablo 4. With all this in mind, a Mortal Kombat team-up feels fairly believable.

The leak in question comes from the Twitter account @ForwardLeaks, and it features the black camo background fans have seen regularly in recent Call of Duty games. Alongside text reading Fist O’ Fire, an image of Mortal Kombat’s Scorpion can be seen, with the character surrounded by flames. What this text and image are meant to represent is unclear, though they could be for a medal, like what players receive for multi-kills. Alternatively, the text and icon could represent a special ability that players wield inside a limited time mode.

Scorpion In The New timeline in Mortal Kombat 1

Supporting the special ability theory is the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Season 1 mode Supe’d Up. Featured on the roadmap for the Season, the image used to advertise the LTM focuses on Homelander. While Supe’d up could simply see players on both teams wearing the skins from Call of Duty’s two crossovers with The Boys, the mode's name suggests gamers will use special abilities tied to the Supes, similar to how Zombie Royale in Warzone gave infected players unique skills. As such, perhaps this leaked image is an early look at an ability icon from a Mortal Kombat-themed LTM where players wield fire like Scorpion, though this is purely speculation.

Obviously, the main draw of a collaboration between Mortal Kombat and Call of Duty would be cosmetics. Both Scorpion and Sub-Zero are obvious choices due to how recognizable they are, but given how wacky Call of Duty has gotten with skins like Inarius, it would surely have no problem adding characters like Kenshi and Fire God Liu Kang. Plus, thanks to Call of Duty’s mature rating, brutal finishing moves could be added that recreate Fatalities from the series. The expected weapon blueprints, calling cards, and emblems could round out Mortal Kombat bundles.

As for other skins that could come to Call of Duty soon, a recent leak suggested that Rick Grimes and Michonne from The Walking Dead are also on the way. However, with previous leaks like a Captain America skin for Call of Duty: Vanguard not panning out, fans should not get their hopes up until the crossover is officially confirmed.
