It's recently been confirmed that Taylor Sheridan, most widely known for co-creating the critically acclaimed Yellowstone TV series, will be coming aboard Paramount's Call of Duty film adaptation. The Call of Duty movie, which was officially announced earlier this fall, already has some high-profile talent attached, most notably Peter Berg, famous for projects like Friday Night Lights, Deepwater Horizon, and Lone Survivor.
As one might expect, the notion of a Call of Duty movie adaptation has been kicked around for several years now. Before this most recent announcement, the most significant whiff of this big-screen pivot came in 2018, when Activision Blizzard Studios was eying Sicario 2 director Stefano Sollima; unfortunately, it would appear that that version of the movie fell through, paving the way for this Berg and Sheridan team-up.
The Call of Duty film will reportedly be live-action, not animated like some other notable game-based movies.
One of Hollywood's Biggest Directors Wanted to Make the Call of Duty Movie
One of Hollywood's most famous directors was reportedly eager to make a Call of Duty movie before Activision sold the rights to Paramount.
The Call of Duty Movie Will Be Co-Written and Produced by Yellowstone Creator Taylor Sheridan
On October 30, 2025, Deadline reported that Sheridan would be coming aboard the Call of Duty film alongside his longtime friend Peter Berg. The duo had previously worked together on Hell or High Water and Wind River, and their partnership on this CoD project was reportedly sought after by Paramount.
A preference for this pair isn't so surprising. As previously mentioned, both have extensive credits and a proven track record of commercial success, in the realms of both film and television. More than this, each creator's body of work is consistent with the identity, tone, and ostensible values of the Call of Duty franchise. Sheridan's Special Ops: Lioness springs to mind as a project spiritually linked to CoD's fundamental pro-military roots and high-level political intrigue, as do Berg's Lone Survivor and Patriots Day.
The unnamed Call of Duty adaptation will be produced by Skydance, a production house responsible for several CoD-like hits, including the Mission Impossible movies, two Jack Reacher romps, and Top Gun: Maverick. Skydance's founder and CEO David Ellision, who is a self-proclaimed Call of Duty fan, said this of the project back in September of this year: "We’re approaching this film with the same disciplined, uncompromising commitment to excellence that guided our work on Top Gun: Maverick, ensuring it meets the exceptionally high standards this franchise and its fans deserve."
