Summary
- A bug in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3's Zombies mode has trapped players inside of Mimics.
- The Mimic bug occurs when players freeze the Mimic and get dragged in, leaving them stuck and unable to move.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3's Zombies mode has been trapping some players inside of Mimics, one of the game's larger and more challenging enemies roaming Urzikstan. Having launched earlier in November, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was released to mixed reviews, as many felt the length and quality of the campaign was subpar, and the new DMZ - inspired open world Zombies mode has alienated fans of classic round-based Zombies. That said, the game's multiplayer component has received some praise for its 16 remade Modern Warfare 2 (2009) maps and much improved movement.
Modern Warfare 3 marks the first time Zombies has been included in a Modern Warfare title. MWZ is an open world Zombies mode where, much like Modern Warfare 2's DMZ, players collect gear like weapons, perks, mods, and more, complete contracts and story challenges, and extract with the gear to use in future drops. Squads can meet each other on the map to team up against the undead and human threats, as there's even a hostile mercenary group called Terminus roaming Urzikstan which players need to watch out for as well. Of all MWZ's threats, Mimics are one of the more difficult enemies to deal with. These large, hulking monstrosities have long tendrils that can grab players who get too close, dealing massive damage.
Useful Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Zombies Video Makes Tier 3 Contracts Easy
One Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 player shares a guide on how to make Tier 3 contracts in the Zombies mode much easier than normal.
It seems some Call of Duty players have been encountering a bug related to MWZ's Mimic monsters. On Reddit, Decision-Internal posted a short clip where they encounter a Mimic chest. Upon shooting the Mimic at close range, it grabs the player with its tendrils and drags them into its mouth where the player gets stuck as a camera at the Mimic's feet. Decision-Internal stayed stuck inside the Mimic for the remainder of the match.
One player under the Reddit post provided a possible explanation for how this Mimic bug is triggered. Posting a longer video, LSIV_ODEZ claims that the bug occurs when a player freezes the Mimic with a cryo weapon as they're being pulled in, and that they don't actually have control of the Mimic. The video goes on to show the Mimic dying and the player remaining stuck to the ground unable to move. Then, the player is killed and proceeds to plummet hundreds of meters under the Urzikstan Zombies map, where LSIV claims they were able to get back up to the surface of the map and mantle over a wall to survive the whole ordeal.
While some have speculated this could be part of an unannounced mode where players control the monsters, the bug seems too janky for this to be the case, as the players are simply being dragged around by the Mimic. Hopefully, this strange bug will see a fix before Season 1 of Modern Warfare 3 begins on December 6.
