One fan of Call of Duty: Warzone 2 found a clever way to take advantage of some of the limited-time features included in the game’s April Fools’ mode, sharing a video of the hilarious results online. Infinity Ward and Raven Software’s free-to-play shooter has been having somewhat of a rough time lately, with news revealing that the player count for Call of Duty: Warzone 2 has dropped significantly in recent months.
Released for PC and consoles in late 2022, Call of Duty: Warzone 2 kept the overall structure of the original game while adding new features and the extraction-based DMZ mode. In addition to the standard game types, Warzone 2 players can now enjoy an April Fools’ mode until April 3. Added in celebration of the love-it-or-leave-it holiday, Warzone 2’s April Fools’ mode removes fall damage and alters the in-game gravity in addition to making similarly outlandish changes to some other elements of the game. While it’s usually the numerous bugs in Call of Duty: Warzone 2 that lead to laughter for players, this limited-time mode includes unexpected and unusual gameplay mechanics by design.
In an entertaining new post on r/CODWarzone, Redditor curtisjoesakic shared a video showing a clever way to add a bit more chaos to the game’s already madcap April Fools’ mode. Taking advantage of the lowered gravity, the clip shows curtisjoesakic bounding superhero-like across the battlefield with one of Call of Duty: Warzone 2’s crossbows in hand as they chase a fleeing opponent. Eventually managing to catch up to the other player, curtisjoesakic unleashes a thermite-tipped crossbow bolt into their enemy, knocking them down before launching them skyward. Adding insult to injury, the clip closes with one more crossbow bolt being let loose to finish off the foe as they plummet back down to the ground.
Redditors responding to the impressive Call of Duty: Warzone 2 clip were amused by the combination of precision shooting and outright hilarity, with several comments complimenting curtisjoesakic on landing the killing blow with their follow-up shot. Referencing the tendency of the Pokemon anime’s villains to find themselves being flung skyward after their plans are foiled, one commenter responding to the video quipped “Team Rocket’s blasting off again.” Another response was in awe of the fancy shooting on display in the clip, but also admitted that they would “have rage quit so hard" after being killed in that way.
Blending skilled shooting with perfect comic timing, this video is a must-watch for fans of the free-to-play shooter. And while some may choose to avoid Call of Duty: Warzone 2 until the game gets back to normal, this clip shows that the April Fools’ mode has plenty of fun to offer those who don’t mind a bit of silliness in their shooters.
Call of Duty: Warzone 2 is currently available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
