The once-unstoppable momentum behind Apex Legends has slowed, and while old players believe it’s just natural aging at this point, it’s only that as long as Respawn doesn’t come up with something bigger and better. It's clear players haven’t lost love for the game’s mechanics, but the emotional attachment that early seasons generated seems to be fading. Meanwhile, Call of Duty: Warzone is actively rewriting the playbook with the heavily anticipated return to Verdansk — a direct move to reconnect to a powerful nostalgia point. Respawn could benefit from its own Verdansk moment, something that’s equally seismic, and not just another legend or minor map rework.

Unlike Warzone, Apex Legends hasn’t fully weaponized its best asset: Titanfall’s legacy. A true nostalgic pivot would, therefore, mean more than background Easter eggs and perhaps headlining Titanfall’s world-building into Apex's future. This could be done through a full map designed around Angel City or active Titanfall mechanics like wall-running and titans in a reimagined LTM, and Respawn could perhaps reignite passion for the game on a massive scale in the process. At the same time, a lot of the earliest Apex Legends players might not really be familiar with Titanfall either, so the studio may need more than just that.

Apex Legends Season 25 is setting up to be an exciting one thanks to its newest character Sparrow, an upcoming Recon Legend with a bow.

Beyond a Map, Apex Needs a Massive Thematic Evolution

A Titanfall- reclaimed season, perhaps, would mean Apex stepping up with a massive, persistent world update, one that permanently evolves the Apex lore and gameplay loop for good. For instance, Leviathans being replaced with downed Titans, fully operational zipline hubs turned into Pilot zones, and old IMC and Militia storylines driving new gameplay mechanics like weapon caches or AI encounters.

Apex could capture the spirit of Call of Duty's Verdansk by going beyond surface-level changes this way and meaningfully expanding its ecosystem through deep, fundamental improvements. Something like Titanfall content won’t just be fan service either, as it’s the missing connective tissue that could redefine Apex’s second lifespan. This could work because many players crave an Apex that doesn’t feel like it’s afraid to swing big anymore, exactly what it came equipped for the battle royale rush with in the first place.

Apex Needs to Double-Down on Anchoring More Than Just Nostalgia

Apex’s closest equivalent other than Titanfall is its own early golden era — King’s Canyon in its raw, original form, with Apex's Skull Town thriving with no gimmicky POIs diluting the purity of the match. Respawn could capitalize by launching something like a Year One Remaster event, perhaps where the very original King’s Canyon is restored without modern clutter, tuned for today’s higher-skill player base.

This kind of move doesn’t just bring players back. It sends a message that Respawn remembers why Apex mattered and became viral. It would create a gravitational pull strong enough to bring back the lapsed veterans while giving newer players a chance to experience Apex’s most legendary era under modern technical ranked matchmaking improvements. At the same time, a remastered King's Canyon isn't enough long-term.

A Potential Ubisoft Competition Is Around the Corner

Apex’s return to its own Verdansk needs to come swinging, not only because it’s the need of the hour but also because the competition is heating up. Ubisoft’s rumored project, Scout, which is in the works, is reportedly an extraction shooter with arena elements, and could soon target the same battle royale-movement-hardened audience Apex has long owned. Respawn, therefore, now, more than ever, needs to think bigger, not just about the nostalgic return, but about what can completely reset the future of the Apex experience and preserve its legacy for times to come.
