After years of player requests, developer Raven Software has finally announced a big map rotation feature for Call of Duty: Warzone, set to arrive early next year. Battle Royale titles such as Apex Legends have long been able to rotate large-scale maps in order to keep players' experience fresh, but Call of Duty: Warzone has insisted that it was previously "not realistic." That no longer appears to be the case, however, as Raven Software says it will implement the feature in 2026.

The announcement comes as Activision, Treyarch Studios, and Raven Software gear up for the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 on November 14. The next entry in the series will be a direct sequel to 2012's Black Ops 2, featuring returning characters David Mason and Raul Menendez. Fans can also expect plenty of new features, weapons, maps, modes, and more in Black Ops 7, including an evolution of Black Ops 6's omnimovement system. But with a full integration between Warzone and Black Ops 7 set for Season 1, Raven Software has now given fans an insight into what's to come.

Call of Duty: Warzone Big Map Rotation Coming in 2026

Earlier this week, Treyarch Studios gave fans a sneak peek at the Season 1 roadmap for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. The massive content update will bring a plethora of new maps, weapons, and more to the shooter, as well as some big changes to Call of Duty: Warzone. In a new community update, Raven Software provided fans with some details on the future of the free-to-play title and announced that it will be expanding Battle Royale to include support for multiple large maps via map rotation. The studio noted that it "wasn't previously realistic" to host multiple large maps at the same time, but it has since taken the steps necessary to support it. Although it won't be part of the big Season 1 update, fans can expect it to be released early next year.

Plenty of other changes are also inbound, as Raven says it is aware Warzone's Rebirth Island map and the broader Resurgence experience have "started to feel a bit stale." The studio goes on to reveal that it will be delivering a "full refresh" to Rebirth Island in Season 2, which will include new POI updates, a cosmetic pass, and several other upgrades that improve flow. As previously announced, Season 1 of Black Ops 7 will bring a new Resurgence map to Warzone known as Haven's Hollow, which Raven says has received some substantial updates over the past few months based on feedback received during early previews of the map.

There's currently no release date for Season 1 of Black Ops 7, but Raven says a seasonal roadmap for Warzone will be released next month, followed by a playlist blog. Before that, however, the studio says that it intends to share a deep dive in the coming weeks, which will provide fans with insight into how Raven intends to deliver a high frequency of updates, with a larger emphasis on balance changes, no less than twice per season. Raven says its approach to weapon and attachment balancing is "fundamentally shifting," which means redefined roles at launch followed by multiple balance passes per season with adjustments entirely unique to Warzone.
