Call of Duty: Warzone will roll out a brand-new experience, inspired by Call of Duty: Black Ops 4's Blackout mode, in Spring 2026. Introduced seven years ago, the Blackout mode was the franchise's initial attempt at a battle royale offering, before the launch of Call of Duty: Warzone.
2020 was the year Activision's dedicated battle royale experience, Call of Duty: Warzone, blew up. However, the foundations for that success were, to a degree, built upon the lessons learned during the development of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4's Blackout mode. Although it was superseded by Warzone eventually, the mode still left its mark on certain sections of fans, who fondly remember it to this day. Luckily, Blackout mode is now confirmed to return in some capacity, as part of Warzone's future roadmap.

Call of Duty's Blackout Mode to Make Its Way into Warzone Next Year
During the Call of Duty Next event, it was announced that a Blackout-themed experience was coming to Call of Duty: Warzone in Spring 2026. The developer shared that it was going to be set in Avalon, a map also expected to feature in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 releasing on November 14. In a post on Twitter, the franchise's official handle labeled the upcoming mode as "a bold new experience" and shared a picture of a group of wingsuit-equipped players gliding through the skies of Avalon, teasing what fans can expect from this addition. Besides this, the newly revealed Call of Duty: Warzone roadmap also confirmed the imminent arrival of enhanced Rebirth Island and Verdansk maps, and the Ranked Play mode, among other things.
In the comments under the post, several people expressed excitement at the imminent return of Blackout to Call of Duty. One Twitter user shared that they were "very happy" at seeing both Blackout and Avalon be included in Warzone's roadmap. Judging by the fan reaction, it appears that many Call of Duty players have positively received the latest announcement. In particular, the re-introduction of Blackout mode should finally scratch the itch for those players who spent a memorable time playing it in Black Ops 4 and have been wanting the mode's return ever since.
Apart from the aforementioned plans, there are a ton of other updates that Call of Duty devs shared during the recently concluded event. For instance, the team behind Black Ops 7 shared various features coming to the multiplayer side of things, such as an upgraded omnimovement, a new 6v6 overload mode, a 20v20 skirmish mode, and more.
