Summary

- The community is speculating on the cause of the glitch, with theories ranging from emotes to a potential zombie invasion in the Gulag.
A bizarre Call of Duty: Warzone bug has surfaced, giving the game's iconic Gulag mechanic an unexpected twist from the grave by allowing zombies to attack a player fighting for their life in what should be a one-on-one deathmatch. While minor interruptions are expected during Gulag matches in Call of Duty: Warzone, namely rocks thrown down into the arena by others waiting for their turn, zombies haven't been seen to pummel players while taking on opponents before.
The Gulag has set Warzone apart from competing battle royale titles since the release of the game in 2020. It offers players a chance at redemption through a fight for survival in a close-knit duel between two eliminated players. With wit and skills, the player can defeat the opponent and bring themselves back to the battlefield, potentially helping their team to achieve victory.
Call of Duty: Warzone Update Re-enables Ranked Play
Raven Software releases a new patch update for Call of Duty: Warzone, with server fixes, gameplay adjustments, and the return of Ranked Play.
The strange incident was shared by professional Warzone pro Ryda, who posted a viewer-submitted clip showing the event unfold. As the player prepared for their duel, a dark figure lunged from the side and attacked the player. Although it is hard to tell from the visual evidence what exactly this creature is, the audio track offers clear proof of the perpetrator with growls only a zombie could make in Warzone.
Mysterious Zombie Encounter in Warzone Gulag Leaves Room for Speculation
The attack happened right after the player had entered the arena from the galleries above, as they were chosen to fight for their chance to return to the warzone. While the timer was counting down to the match, the zombie appeared out of nowhere and brought down the health of the player by more than half before the duel had even started. The zombie can be seen as the player teleports in, seemingly through the undead creature itself, and it only appears once after that to strike the player. Unfortunately, there's no confirmation of whether the player ended up still winning the Gulag bout even as an underdog, as the video ends as the real fight begins. Needless to say, their chances were significantly reduced after losing most of their health.
This odd behavior has left the community guessing what could possibly be behind such an event. While it is not the first glitch to affect a Warzone's Gulag match, it's certainly one of the oddest. Some theories have suggested it was an emote, which doesn't pass the smell test, as it would naturally be only cosmetic. Others are hoping perhaps there's a zombie invasion in the works for the Gulag. Whatever the reason, this is highly unlikely to be an intentional feature added by Infinity Ward, as there would be more similar sightings of zombies by other players.
