A new leak has prompted controversy within the Call of Duty community, specifically for fans of Warzone. Footage of the next map for Activision's highly successful battle royale game leaked earlier this week, along with a load of other details about Black Ops 6. The new footage revealed pieces of the next Warzone map, which will presumably launch alongside Black Ops 6 later this year, but not all fans were thrilled by what they saw.
It is an incredibly exciting time to be a Call of Duty fan, with the next iteration of the legendary series arriving later this year. Helmed once again by longtime developer Treyarch, Black Ops 6 will continue both the Black Ops and Call of Duty sagas, offering a wide range of new and exciting changes and improvements along the way. Alongside Black Ops 6's Zombies and multiplayer modes, a new campaign will be featured that will take fans on a new journey set shortly after the events of Cold War, Treyarch's most recent Call of Duty title. However, Black Ops 6 also marks the continuation of Warzone, though the next iteration of this popular free-to-play experience is proving to be quite controversial.
Footage of a new Warzone map has circulated online after Activision uploaded a build of Black Ops 6 to the PlayStation Network database. As a result, a wide range of features, gameplay clips, and other information leaked about Black Ops 6, though the upcoming new Warzone map specifically garnered attention from fans. Clips of the new map have been shared and discussed online, though most traces have been removed due to copyright infringement. However, fans are discussing the new map in a certain Reddit thread, which heated up following the leak.
New Warzone Leak Sparks Controversy Among Call of Duty Fans
Reddit user JenNettles uploaded a clip of the newly leaked Warzone map named Avalon. The post has received over 200 comments, with a large portion of fans feeling disappointed by what they'd seen. "Anything but open fields and water, no thanks," said Elctricengineer. DefunctHunk asked, "Have they EVER received positive feedback about the inclusion of water? Why are they insisting on shoving it in wherever possible?" Birria_tacos_ said, "Can we please add more hardcover so we can finally move away from the smoke meta? Smokes wouldn’t be needed so much if they knew how to actually design a map properly."
Not only will Black Ops 6 expand upon the Call of Duty formula in Warzone, but the game will also introduce several changes and new features for its multiplayer and Zombie modes. Perhaps the biggest change to Black Ops 6 is its new movement system, which allows players to run and leap forwards, backwards, left, and right. Classic prestige will also be returning to Black Ops 6, as will traditional round-based Zombies. Black Ops 6 releases on October 25, 2024, and will certainly be a big day for Call of Duty and the FPS genre as a whole.
