Season 1 of Call of Duty: Warzone is set to add some new counterplay elements later this year, with a new change that will allow players to use Stim Shots as a way to counteract the effects of Flash and Concussion Grenades. There's currently no release date for Call of Duty: Warzone Season 1, but Activision and Raven Software did recently pull back the curtain on what fans can expect when the free-to-play title is integrated with Call of Duty: Black Ops 7.

call of duty warzone combat roll season 1 controversy

One of the many changes that will be released alongside the game's Season 1 update is a controversial new combat roll mechanic for Warzone's Mountaineer Perk. The feature was briefly shown during yesterday's COD Next event, but fans have already taken a strong dislike to the mechanic for several reasons. The new movement feature is tied to the Mountaineer Perk, which allows players to fall from greater heights without taking lethal damage. However, upon landing, they will now enter a "clunky" combat roll animation. Fans of the shooter have criticized the transition from first to third-person view as "horrible" and have called for Raven Software to make significant changes before its release.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Beta Maps and Modes Are Now Official

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 officially pulls the curtain back on the maps and game modes that will be featured in the open beta.

Warzone Players Will Be Able to Counter Flash Grenades With Stim Shots

Aside from some new movement changes, Season 1 will also introduce new counterplay elements, with the most notable being the ability to counter the effects of Flash and Concussion Grenades using a Stim Shot. Raven Software has also revealed that players will be able to extinguish fires from Molotovs using Smoke Grenades, and that additional counterplay mechanics will be revealed later down the line. A clip shared by Raven Software shows how using the Stim Shot in Warzone will completely eliminate the white screen that occurs when a player is flashed or concussed.

Outside of gameplay changes, fans can expect plenty of other new content with Season 1 and beyond. As revealed during COD Next on September 30, the hugely popular Blackout from Black Ops 4 will return in 2026. Many will remember the mode as Call of Duty's very first attempt at Battle Royale before it found massive success with Warzone in 2020. The Call of Duty community often debates on which of the two was better, as some preferred the lack of loadouts in Blackout.

For those who prefer Call of Duty's current Battle Royale title, there's plenty of new content coming to the game later this year with the integration of Black Ops 7. The standout piece of content for the new season will be the debut of a brand-new Warzone Resurgence map known as Haven's Hollow. The map will take players to Appalachia and features a total of five points of interest, with two of them being Zombies maps from Black Ops 6. There will also be continued updates to Verdansk, with the addition of two new locations for Season 1.
