Fans are gearing up for another batch of post-launch content for Call of Duty: Warzone and Black Ops 6, with more information starting to surface around the upcoming Season 5. In what should be the penultimate season of the Black Ops 6 era, Season 5 is expected to launch for the title as well as Warzone on August 9. Large-scale content is expected to wind down for Black Ops 6 and Warzone as attention starts to shift toward the upcoming Black Ops 7, though a recent teaser for Warzone challenges this assumption.

Recently, a teaser was released for the ongoing seasonal storyline of Call of Duty: Warzone and Black Ops 6, featuring the likes of Frank Woods, Russell Adler, and Sevati Dumas. Fans were quick to notice how heavily Avalon featured in this cinematic, with it seeming very likely that the location is being set up to appear heavily in the franchise's future. The concept of Avalon being a Warzone map has been debated, rumored, and leaked for some time, with this recent cinematic either being a left-field announcement or a strange misdirect for the franchise's future plans.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Could Mark a New Era For Warzone

Warzone has had to adapt to many CoD entries over the years, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 may mark a thematic turning point for the battle royale.

Call of Duty: Warzone's Potential Avalon Map Has Been a Confusing Back and Forth

Avalon played a massive role in the overall narrative of Black Ops 6, being integral to the game's campaign as the breeding ground of several high-profile criminal factions. It always seemed like adding a fully-fledged Avalon map to Warzone would be a fantastic way to bridge the story of Black Ops 6 into the battle royale, yet Treyarch has not narratively linked both franchises in the same way that Warzone did with the recent Modern Warfare reboot.

Despite this, datamines in late 2024 gave way to leaks and theories that a major Avalon Warzone map exists within the files of Black Ops 6, with theater mode exploration even confirming this. This map came with a range of POIs directly tied to many of Black Ops 6's launch multiplayer maps, with it seeming like a sure-thing that the map would eventually be a major release for Warzone.

Of course, the BO6 era of Warzone has instead largely been defined by the return of the iconic Verdansk map, with Activision seemingly prioritizing this over the potential risks of adding a new core map to the game. Many fans understandably assumed that Verdansk would remain as the major Warzone map to see out the Black Ops 6 era of the game, though the recent teaser for Season 5 ends with a lingering wide shot of the city in what appears to be a clear set up for something like a major Warzone experience.

Season 5's Avalon Teaser Could Be Closely Tied to Black Ops 7

This would seem out of the blue given how Black Ops 6 is nearing the end of its shelf life, yet Avalon could instead be tied to Black Ops 7's stewardship of Warzone. It is all but confirmed that The Guild will be the major antagonistic faction of Black Ops 7's story, with the group having been created in Avalon. Essentially, this means that Avalon will still have huge narrative importance throughout the life cycle of Black Ops 7, potentially meaning that an Avalon map could come to Warzone to mark the release of this new title.

Sevati Dumas indicates that she is staying in Avalon in the Season 5 teaser cinematic, potentially indicating that the figure could have some ties to Black Ops 7 through The Guild.

If the recent teaser for Call of Duty Season 5 does not relate to Avalon coming to Warzone, then it seems to be a real slap in the face to the players who have wanted the map to release for almost a year. It remains to be seen what plans Activision has for Avalon over the next few months, but either way, the location is one of the most confusing and unclear elements of Call of Duty in recent years.
