The latest update for Call of Duty: Warzone has nerfed three popular handguns in the game, which is likely to upset players who favor pistols in combat. Activision has been rolling out patches since the beginning of the latest season. Season 4 Reloaded brought Temp-V superpowers to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone, shaking up the gameplay with new content and aesthetics. In the wake of these changes, however, Activision has also had to introduce new patches on the fly to fix or modify the game as the season unfolds.
Warzone was forced to nerf the new field upgrade shortly after introducing it, numerous bugs have been found and squashed, and more restrictions have been added to Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone ranked play. Now, yet another update has dropped that brings more nerfs to the game.
On July 24, a new Call of Duty: Warzone patch reduced the damage of the Basilisk, FTAC Siege, and X13 Auto handguns in one form or another. In particular, the Basilisk was only nerfed when it has Snakeshot and Akimbo applied, while the other two pistols saw their max damage reduced in general. The wording of the patch notes seems to indicate that nerfing the Basilisk and X13 Auto were bug fixes as the weapons had higher damage output than was actually intended. The FTAC Siege, meanwhile, appears to have simply been nerfed because it was just too powerful with its intended stats.
The same patch introduced several other nerfs and buffs to various weapons along with a few more bug fixes for both Warzone and Call of Duty. The trio of pistol nerfs, however, will really hurt operators that favor the fast-paced, run-and-gun style of dual-wielded pistols. None of them are necessarily the best close-quarters weapons in Warzone, but they all have their fans and can be useful, at least as sidearms.
At the moment, it seems sniper rifles, shotguns, and SMGs have been less impacted by the latest batch of nerfs, so they could be good options to fall back on. Shotguns, in particular, could fill the void for players who employed Basilisk pistols with Snakeshot as they function similarly and serve the same purpose.
Season 4 Reloaded and its Call of Duty x The Boys crossover may mark a new trend, but Activision is plainly still working out the kinks. In the coming days, it won't be surprising if a few more updates, complete with nerfs and buffs, drop to help balance out the gameplay and smooth over any issues that arise. In the meantime, fans will need to keep up with the latest stats and do their best to adjust as things change.
