Footage from Retro Studios’ cancelled 3D platformer has surfaced online, and the video games community has mixed opinions on the uncovered gameplay. Retro Studios is an American-based developer and subsidiary of Nintendo, best known for its work on the Metroid Prime and Donkey Kong series, as well as its contribution to the Nintendo 3DS version of Mario Kart 7. Other cancelled games in the studio’s portfolio include Star Fox Armada, RPG Raven Blade, and an untitled The Legend of Zelda project.
When it comes to Retro Studios, all eyes are on the developer’s upcoming entry in the Metroid Prime series, and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will give Samus psychic powers and a new suit. The upcoming action-adventure title will see the protagonist navigate a fight for survival on the planet Viewros and confront rival bounty hunter Sylux. The sequel was announced back in 2019, but a concrete release date is still to be confirmed for a 2025 launch.
Metroid Prime Remastered Deserves a Switch 2 Edition for One Important Reason
If there's one game on the original Switch that would benefit greatly from a Switch 2 Edition port, it's Metroid Prime Remastered.
Uploaded by Stumblyn on YouTube, several hours of footage were shown of the cancelled platformer Harmony. Unfortunately, the video has since been removed after Nintendo blocked it on copyright grounds. Back in April 2025, another leak uncovered footage of unreleased Nintendo Switch games, and among the list was Bandai Namco Studios Singapore’s Ridge Racer alongside footage from Harmony. The current leak, however, showcased significantly more from the previous reveal, accumulating over four hours of gameplay. Harmony was described as a linear 3D platformer being developed during the Wii U phase, following a female, red-haired hero who could influence nature by singing.
Retro Studios' Cancelled Platformer Harmony Leaks Online With Several Hours of Footage
Redditors were skeptical that Harmony would have joined the best 3D Nintendo Switch platformers list, saying the game looked like it had no direction, and some didn’t think the finished product would have come close to the studio’s standard from more prolific work. Other comments highlighted Retro Studios’ strange track record, noting how it doesn’t miss regarding the quality of its released games, but has strange gaps and cancelled projects in its portfolio.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is one of several titles that will be joining every confirmed Nintendo Switch 2 game, alongside other exclusive titles to the Japanese publisher, including Pokemon Legends Z-A, Kirby and the Forgotten Land + Star-Crossed World, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and its sequel Tears of the Kingdom. A slew of third-party titles will also be available on the next-gen console, such as Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, and FromSoftware’s new IP, The Duskbloods.
