Capcom has revealed its latest franchise sales numbers, providing fans with some insight into how the legendary studio's games have fared over the past year. One of the biggest players in the industry, Capcom has seen some major success in 2025 already, with some potential big releases in the pipeline.

The year started off with a bang for Capcom, with February's Monster Hunter Wilds instantly becoming a major hit and a potential Game of the Year contender. At release, the action RPG pulled in over 1.3 million concurrent players on Steam, with even more flocking to the title on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Capcom announced soon after that Monster Hunter Wilds had become its fastest-selling game to date, with fans continuing to praise the title's story and vast open world. Now, more information has come to light regarding the company's many other popular franchises and how well they have sold as 2025 reaches the halfway point.

One Monster Hunter Wilds Feature Could Use More Time in the Oven

While Monster Hunter Wilds has many useful features, one seems completely underwhelming and lacking, making the case for it to undergo some changes.

In its latest earnings report, Capcom shared the sales figures for many of its major franchises as of March 2025. Resident Evil sits at the top of the pack, with the series selling over 170 million copies. In second place is Monster Hunter, with a combined 120 million units sold, and Mega Man sits in third place at 43 million copies. Bolstered by last year's well-received sequel, the Dragon's Dogma series now sits at 13 million copies sold, while Street Fighter comes in at an impressive figure of 56 million. One series currently seeing a resurgence is Devil May Cry, which has shipped over 33 million units and recently got its own anime series on Netflix. Earlier this month, a potential Devil May Cry remake was teased by series creator Hideki Kamiya, though nothing is said to be in the works just yet.

Capcom Series Lifetime Sales Figures (as of March 31, 2025)

  • Resident Evil - 170 million copies
  • Monster Hunter - 120 million copies
  • Mega Man - 43 million copies
  • Street Fighter - 56 million copies
  • Devil May Cry - 33 million copies
  • Dead Rising - 18 million copies
  • Ace Attorney - 13 million copies
  • Dragon's Dogma - 13 million copies
  • Marvel vs. Capcom - 12 million copies
  • Onimusha - 8.7 million copies
  • Okami - 4.6 million

Given these sales figures, it's no surprise that Resident Evil 9 is in the works, with Capcom recently teasing the title in a video celebrating the success of the Resident Evil 4 remake. Details about the game remain scarce, including its release window, though some leakers have pointed to the ninth entry being an open-world title. More information is expected to be revealed by the end of the year.

During The Game Awards 2024, fans were shocked to learn that an Okami sequel was in development and being led by the original game's creator. The title will directly follow the events of the first game and is being developed on Capcom's proprietary RE Engine, which was also used to create Monster Hunter Wilds and Street Fighter 6. No release date has been confirmed.
