Summary

  • Capcom says that a remaster of Dead Rising 2 is "definitely possible," but it depends on how Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster performs.
  • A recent survey put out by the company asked gamers if they'd like to see future Dead Rising releases.
  • Jas Patrick, the voice actor for Frank West in the recent remaster, asked fans to request an updated version of the 2011 title Dead Rising 2: Off the Record.

Capcom developers are hinting at a future remaster of Dead Rising 2 in the style of the recent Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster. Frank West’s original trek through the zombie-infested Willamette Parkview Mall was relaunched on modern hardware with a new coat of paint on September 19 to mostly positive reviews, leaving fans wondering if Capcom is going to give the same treatment to later installments in the series like 2010’s Dead Rising 2.

Dead Rising 2 replaced Frank with motorcycle rider Chuck Greene and introduced a weapon-crafting mechanic that allowed players to cobble together items to make more powerful tools to defend themselves against the undead hordes roaming the Las Vegas-inspired Fortune City. In 2011, Capcom released a reimagining titled Dead Rising 2: Off the Record, which retold the original game’s story with Frank as the main protagonist instead. Jas Patrick, the voice actor for Frank West in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, recently asked fans to request an updated version of Off the Record in a survey put out by Capcom this month.

Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster Doesn't Fix the Franchise's Biggest Plot Hole

Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster doesn't fix the major plot hole introduced in 2013's Dead Rising 3.

The original Dead Rising 2 was also one of the options fans could vote for in this survey, which asked gamers if they would like to see future Dead Rising games following the release of Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster. Some of the developers behind the remaster, such as director Ryosuke Murai, original game director Yoshinori Kawano, art director Satoshi Takamatsu, and producer Kei Morimoto, recently sat down for an interview with Inverse, during which they mentioned the possibility of remastering Dead Rising 2.

Capcom Teases Dead Rising 2 Remaster

Morimoto says that a remaster of Dead Rising 2 will depend on how well Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster performs, but added that it is “definitely possible” and that Capcom will consider it if it can “identify an appropriate time where we’d be able to sell [it].” Capcom has previously stated that it wishes to revitalize the once-dormant Dead Rising series following the release of Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, which has triggered a boost in sales for past installments like the original Dead Rising 2.

Dead Rising 2 is still considered by many to be one of the best entries in the Dead Rising franchise, and would logically be the next game to reinvent should Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster prove successful enough for Capcom. Only time will tell if gamers will get the chance to strap on Chuck Green’s signature yellow jacket and slash their way through yet another zombie apocalypse with the same level of polish that was given to the first Dead Rising game, but fans are certainly looking forward to the possibility.
