Marvel’s recent big entry in the Captain America franchise went up on streaming earlier this month, and to add to that hype, they threw in a lil' something sweet for us collectors. Captain America: Brave New World is officially up for pre-order in a limited edition 4K UHD SteelBook format, now listed on Amazon for $44.99. And yes, this is the version with all the bells and whistles, 4K UHD, Blu-ray, digital code, and a collector’s SteelBook case with exclusive art.
If you’re someone who still values physical media (or just likes owning a slick version of the movie you already watched twice in theaters), this is one of the better Marvel home video releases we’ve seen in a while. Let's take a quick look at what you're getting with this package, and why it might be worth locking in your order before release day.
Captain America: Brave New World Manages To Cross Major Box Office Threshold With Its Dying Breath
It's taken a long time for Captain America: Brave New World to reach a threshold it should have crossed earlier.
The Basics: What’s in the Box
This is a three-part package:
- 1x 4K Ultra HD disc
- 1x standard Blu-ray
- 1x digital copy via Movies Anywhere
- Packaged in a custom-designed SteelBook case with exclusive artwork and inner design
The 4K disc supports HDR10 and Dolby Vision, while audio includes Dolby Atmos and DTS-HD Master Audio tracks in English. You also get English SDH, Spanish, and French subtitles on both discs. The 4K disc is region-free, and the Blu-ray is Region A. That makes this edition fully playable in North America without any compatibility issues.
Bonus Features - And Yes, There Is A Gag Reel
Marvel doesn’t always go all-out on bonus content, but this release has a decent lineup:
Deleted Scenes:
- The Mission - Sam Wilson tries to get intel from Agent Taylor in the boxing ring
- Stick Around - President Ross extends an apology and an unexpected offer to Isaiah
- A Heartfelt Thanks - Ross delivers praise to Agent Taylor following the final conflict
Featurettes:
- Assuming the Mantle - A closer look at Sam Wilson’s arc and what it means to wear the shield
- Old Scores, New Scars - Behind the scenes with the film’s villains and their motivations
Other Extras:
- Full-length audio commentary with director Julius Onah and cinematographer Kramer Morgenthau
- Gag reel with outtakes, bloopers, and a few broken props
It’s not quite Infinity War-level comprehensive (I doubt anything will be that comprehensive for a while), but it’s...more than what we’ve come to expect from recent Phase 5 physical releases. Captain America: Brave New World may not be the most over-the-top Marvel entry, but it’s an important one.
Sam Wilson’s transition into the role brings the franchise into a new chapter, and this release feels like it’s giving the movie the respect it deserves. Also, we got to watch Harrison Ford fully hulk out and whoop Cap's butt for funsies, for like ten glorious minutes. No point in not preserving that piece of history.
Like I said, if you’re somebody who loves owning what you watch, and you want something a little nicer than a plastic case with a studio slipcover, this SteelBook is an easy pickup.
Pre-orders are open now. Once it’s gone, it’s gone. Happy trails, everyone.
